There\u2019s not a lot going on between the Dallas Cowboys and George Pickens these days. But the latest comment from national NFL insider provides hope for fans, both long-term and short-term.<\/p>\n
The truth is there\u2019s not a lot going on between George Pickens and the Dallas Cowboys heading into OTAs. And yet, the star wide receiver remains a big talking point in the NFL media landscape even after the Cowboys publicly stated they\u2019re not negotiating a long-term deal<\/a> nor do they plan to trade him. <\/p>\n And while most of it is just recycled talking points, the latest comment by NFL insider Jeremy Fowler on ESPN\u2019s Sportscenter are relevant. They even provide a glimmer of hope for a long-term deal.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n NFL insider isn\u2019t betting on a holdout<\/p>\n Talking on live TV, Fowler reiterated Pickens is happy where he\u2019s at and more than that, he revealed he doesn\u2019t expect a holdout from the star receiver. <\/p>\n \u201c(Pickens) loves being a Cowboy, loves a long-term deal more,\u201d Fowler said. \u201cThey weren\u2019t able to get one, but they\u2019re hopeful down the road they can work it out. But I don\u2019t expect a holdout at this point, should be locked in for the Cowboys in 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n Fowler is one of the very first people in NFL media to make anything close to a prediction on Pickens not holding out. And it checks out. After all, Pickens signed the franchise tag earlier in the month, which means he\u2019s now subject to fines should he miss mandatory practices. <\/p>\n Additionally, Pickens \u201cloving\u201d being a Cowboy is no small thing. He loves the culture and the teammates, sure. But part of what he loves has to be the fact that he gets to play with one of the league\u2019s best quarterbacks in Dak Prescott<\/a>. And he faces favorable coverages thanks to CeeDee Lamb<\/a>\u2019s presence in the lineup. <\/p>\n In other words, he has to love the unique opportunity he gets to put up big numbers and raise his price tag. And the margins are not thin.<\/p>\n 93 catches (47% more than previous high)<\/p>\n 1,429 receiving yards (25% more)<\/p>\n 67.9% catch rate (10% more)<\/p>\n We\u2019ll find out more very soon<\/p>\n Pickens has worked with Dak Prescott and Co. in the offseason away from team facilities. But a big test of his \u201clove\u201d for the Cowboys is quickly coming our way. Dallas kicks off OTAs June 1. <\/p>\n While Pickens isn\u2019t required to show up, doing so would go a long way in demonstrating his commitment.
