Mark Taylor<\/a> has urged Cricket Australia to consider the Test format when making a final call on the proposed move to open the Big Bash League<\/a> in India later this year.<\/p>\n

It has been reported that five people from Cricket Australia<\/a> flew to India earlier this month in hopes to get a deal approved to send two teams to open the next BBL season<\/a>.<\/p>\n

CA has yet to confirm the deal, although it’s expected to be finalised soon.<\/p>\n

The season will get underway from the second week of December this season, just days after Australia begins their Test series against New Zealand in Perth.<\/p>\n

The summer international window is not a new concept for BBL teams, with all teams learning to adapt to the absence of some key stars over that period.<\/p>\n

But it’s the viewers that Taylor is most worried about with the proposed move.<\/p>\n

“You’re going to see two Big Bash teams go to India right at the time that the Australian cricket team are playing a Test series here,” he said on Nine’s Wide World of Sports.<\/p>\n

“From a Test-watching lover, I don’t like it.<\/p>\n

“I believe if it happens it will be in early to mid-December when the Test matches are due to start. Australia play New Zealand in a four-match Test series on December 9.<\/p>\n

“To me, any sort of game like that we take away from the Tests matches which I love.<\/p>\n

“But it is also monsoon season, so it would be strange to send two sides there and have a wash out game then they have to come back.”<\/p>\n

Nine presenter Nick McArdle noted that Australian fans are programmed to watch the BBL over the Christmas period due to the minimal sporting competitions that are on. <\/p>\n

Taylor agreed, however, he recognised that the national team is not only being affected by the BBL moving the series opener abroad, but also the IPL.<\/p>\n

As it stands, some players missed selection for Australia’s upcoming ODI series against Pakistan due to the belief that they would prefer to play in the IPL finals if they qualified.<\/p>\n

The selections were made prior to the IPL finals fixtures being locked in, meaning some players may have been eligible to represent the green and gold in that series. <\/p>\n

Taylor understands the belief that players will pick the IPL over representing Australia is down to the money that is on offer.<\/p>\n

“There are so many moving parts but the bottom line is that India is where the money is … it is up to CA to keep the BCCI (Indian cricket board) happy,” he said<\/p>\n

“They (CA) want the players to go to India and play, but most Australians are not following the IPL that closely. I am certainly not.<\/p>\n

“It is a bit of a sideline … but it is now the main part of where world cricket is at.<\/p>\n

“International games like our one-game series in Pakistan will be influenced by the IPL. The finals are coming up and Australian players will be in those finals, but we don’t know who they are going to be yet.
