US President Donald Trump has missed his son’s wedding ceremony in the Bahamas, citing his “love of the United States” as a key reason to stay in Washington.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Donald Trump Jr and Bettina Anderson held an intimate ceremony on Saturday, after being officially married in Florida on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The president confirmed on Truth Social that he would not be attending the weekend celebration, citing that he needed to remain in Washington during this “important period of time”.<\/p>\n

“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my \u200blove for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” the post read.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Congratulations to Don and Bettina!” he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr Trump was originally supposed to travel to his New Jersey golf resort over the weekend, but the White House later announced changed travel plans that said he would remain in Washington.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘I have a thing called Iran’\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr Trump did not specify exactly why this weekend was an “important period”, although it does come as talks to end the Middle East war seem to be intensifying.<\/p>\n

“I have a thing called Iran and other things,” Mr Trump said, regarding the Bahamas celebration.\u00a0<\/p>\n

US President Donald Trump \u200bsays a memorandum of understanding \u200bon \u200ca peace deal with Iran that would open the Strait of Hormuz has been “largely negotiated” and will be revealed soon, however Iran has sown doubt as to how far-reaching the agreement will be.<\/p>\n

In a separate post on Truth Social, he said a peace deal with Iran that would open the Strait of Hormuz has been “largely negotiated”.<\/p>\n

“Final aspects and details of the Deal \u200bare \u200ccurrently being discussed, and will \u2060be \u200cannounced shortly.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hopes for president’s future attendance<\/p>\n

A source familiar with the couple, Christine Schott, told US media that the Bahamas gathering would serve as a prelude to a larger celebration at the White House.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“They are going to have a bigger celebration in the fall at the White House, or sometime, whenever it’s appropriate,” Ms Schott said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She added the couple planned to hold off until circumstances changed in Washington and the wider world.<\/p>\n

“It’ll be when the president can hopefully attend,” she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As to when that will be remains uncertain.<\/p>\n

Representatives for the White House did not immediately respond to US media requests for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Don Jnr, 48, was married to Vanessa Haydon from 2005 to 2018. They share five children.<\/p>\n
