{"id":692171,"date":"2026-05-24T21:01:21","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T21:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/692171\/"},"modified":"2026-05-24T21:01:21","modified_gmt":"2026-05-24T21:01:21","slug":"will-powers-indy-500-ends-with-sudden-mechanical-failure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/692171\/","title":{"rendered":"Will Power\u2019s Indy 500 ends with sudden mechanical failure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/indy-500-will-power-crash.jpg\" alt=\"\u2018Blew up\u2019: Sudden failure ends Will Power\u2019s Indy 500\"\/><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWill Power spun when his rear wheels locked.<\/p>\n<p>The Andretti Global driver slowed on the front straight on Lap 92 before pulling to the inside of the track.<\/p>\n<p>On the lower lane, exiting the pits, Power\u2019s car suddenly locked its rear wheels and spilled oil over the track.<\/p>\n<p>Power had been 13th at the time of the issue.<\/p>\n<p>He reported what he thought to be a gearbox failure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe gearbox blew up,\u201d he radioed.<\/p>\n<p>Under the yellow, light rain hit the speedway and forced officials to throw the red flag.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Dixon led a Chip Ganassi Racing one-two with Alex Palou second. They were trailed by Team Penske\u2019s trio of David Malukas, Josef Newgarden, and Scott McLaughlin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been interesting,\u201d said Dixon during the break.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pace was fairly slow to start with.
