{"id":692247,"date":"2026-05-24T21:54:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T21:54:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/692247\/"},"modified":"2026-05-24T21:54:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-24T21:54:20","slug":"indycar-news-fiery-crash-red-flags-final-laps-of-indy-500","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/692247\/","title":{"rendered":"IndyCar news: Fiery crash red flags final laps of Indy 500"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/indy-500-caio-collet-crash.jpg\" alt=\"Fiery crash red flags final laps of Indy 500\"\/><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCaio Collet crashed inside the final 10 laps of the 110th Running of the Indianapolis 500.<\/p>\n<p>Collet got loose at Turn 2 before slamming into the outside wall.<\/p>\n<p>So violent was the impact that the #4 Chevrolet burst into flames, sliding through the grass to come to a rest.<\/p>\n<p>Collet gingerly got out of his car before being taken away from the scene of the accident.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the red flag, Meyer Shank Racing driver Felix Rosenqvist led the race.<\/p>\n<p>Pato O\u2019Ward was second for McLaren while Rosenqvist\u2019s teammate Marcus Armstrong was third.<\/p>\n<p>Team Penske\u2019s David Malukas was a distant fourth, 18 seconds in arrears of the leader.
