New WBC Strawweight Champion, received as a hero in Eastern Cape after his historic victory

After conquering the World Boxing Council strawweight world title in Johannesburg, the brand-new monarch returned to his home in Eastern Cape, where he was received with a massive and emotional celebration that recognizes his extraordinary sporting feat.

The champion, who reached maximum glory by defeating the experienced Filipino former monarch Melvin Jerusalem, was feted with a special parade that traveled the streets, reflecting the pride of a community that has seen one of its sons ascend to the pinnacle of international boxing.

The bout against Jerusalem, a rival of proven hierarchy, was the stage where the South African fighter consolidated his status as one of the new stars of pugilism.

With a display of technique, discipline, and an unbreakable heart, he overcame the tactical challenges imposed by the Filipino, demonstrating why he now carries the prestigious Hreen and Gold WBC belt.

During the welcoming events, the champion expressed his deep gratitude to the local authorities for the support provided: “I feel truly honored and grateful. My gratitude to the MEC for Sports of the Buffalo City Municipality, Ms. Amanda Rhalasi, and to the Councilor for Ward 20, Lwandiso Pisane, for having given me this warm welcome.”

The emotional tour included a special visit to the Sisonke Boxing Club, the gym where he took his first steps as an amateur boxer and where he sowed the foundations of his current success.

Beyond the athletic achievements, the champion’s message transcends the ring. Coming from the informal settlements of Ngidi Park, his story of overcoming is a testament to resilience:

“I hope to have inspired others; that they know that their environment does not define them. I come from the trenches, but I have had the fortune of traveling the world thanks to the sport. If I could, they can also.”

The weekend of celebrations in Eastern Cape reaffirms the positive impact of his career, not only in the sporting realm, but as a symbol of hope for future generations of South African athletes.
