J\ufeffeff Bezos’<\/a> mum, Jackie Bezos has died<\/a>. She was 78.<\/p>\n

The news was shared in a tribute posted<\/a> to the Bezos Scholars Instagram account, announcing that Jackie died on August 14 at her home in Miami.<\/p>\n

A cause of death was not included but the post \ufeffshared that Jackie had been diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia \u2013 “A progressive neurological disorder” \u2013 back in 2020.<\/p>\n

Jeff was Jackie’s first child, raising him as a single mother in Albuquerque, New Mexico after giving birth to him at 17 years old whilst still in high school.<\/p>\n

\ufeffShe met Miguel ‘Mike’ Bezos whilst taking night school classes a few years later, and went on to marry him when Jeff was four years old.<\/p>\n

Following her death, Jeff shared a personal tribute<\/a> to Instagram, noting that it “couldn’t have been easy” to have had him so young but “she made it all work”.<\/p>\n

“She pounced on the job of loving me with ferocity, brought my amazing dad onto the team a few years later, and then added my sister and brother to her list of people to love, guard, and nourish,” he wrote.<\/p>\n

“For the rest of her life, that list of people to love never stopped growing. She always gave so much more than she ever asked for.”<\/p>\n

Jackie welcomed two more children with Mike, \ufeffMark and Christina, her death announcement noting that she “dedicated her life to her family and poured her heart into raising her children with compassion, patience, and wisdom.”<\/p>\n

“Jackie was not only a mother to her own children, but to many others as well,” the post read.<\/p>\n

“Over the years, her home became a welcoming gathering place for her children’s friends. Jackie created a space where everyone felt safe, heard, and cared for.”<\/p>\n

\ufeffAt 45 years old she returned to school to complete a Bachelor of Arts, going on to create the Bezos Family Foundation.<\/p>\n

“At the Foundation, she devoted immense time and energy to two in-house programs: Vroom, a global early learning initiative that translates leading brain research into accessible, actionable tips to nurture children’s growing minds, and the Bezos Scholars program, which supports students in the United States and Africa,” the tribute read. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Jeff shared that Jackie was surrounded by himself and “many” others “who loved her” at the time of her death, including her children, grandchildren and husband Mike. \ufeff<\/p>\n

“I know she felt our love in those final moments,” he wrote.<\/p>\n

“We were all so lucky to be in her life. I hold her safe in my heart forever.<\/p>\n

“I love you, mom.\ufeff”<\/p>\n

Jackie is survived by her husband Mike, three children, Jeff, Mark and Christina, 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.<\/p>\n
