Inside Taylor Swift\u2019s $230m property empire<\/a><\/p>\n\u201cMy family lived in a two-storey brown-shingled house in Wareham,\u201d she recalled. \u201cA wood stove heated our home, and we had kerosene lanterns at the ready in case of a power outage.\u201d<\/p>\n
Davis admitted that even from a young age, she dreamt of one day becoming a Hollywood actor \u2013 often immersing herself in television and imagining a life far bigger than the one she knew in suburban Massachusetts.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt home, the TV was often on,\u201d she said. \u201cMy parents said I was 3 when I first told them I\u2019d be an actor. I think I saw acting as a way to be somebody who didn\u2019t have to blend in.\u201d<\/p>\n
She added: \u201cSometimes I wore sunglasses while watching TV because actors wore them.\u201d<\/p>\n
The future Hollywood star also recalled spending much of her childhood with her best friend, Lucyann, who conveniently lived just across the street.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy best friend, Lucyann, lived across the street, and was a year younger,\u201d Davis shared. \u201cDuring sleepovers, her mom, Lucia, let us watch \u2018The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.\u2019 Lucia said, \u2018Geena, if you\u2019re ever on that show, you\u2019ll know you\u2019ve made it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
As it turns out, Davis would do just that- appearing on Johnny Carson\u2019s beloved late-night talk show for the first time in 1987, just a few months before she starred in \u201cBeetlejuice.\u201d<\/p>\n
But during her childhood, the idea of reaching such dizzying heights was restricted to Davis\u2019 imagination, which she allowed to run rampant by staging homemade productions with Lucyann, many of which were inspired by their favourite TV programs.<\/p>\n
\u201cLucyann and I put on lots of silly plays, many based on TV shows,\u201d Davis said.<\/p>\n
Even while sick at home as a child, Davis found herself studying actors and practising techniques that would later help shape her career.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I was 10, I was home with the flu for a week and noticed that TV soap-opera actors often raised one eyebrow at the end of a scene,\u201d she revealed. \u201cI taught myself how to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Although Davis enjoyed many aspects of her suburban upbringing, she admitted she often felt different from her peers and longed for a fresh start.<\/p>\n
That opportunity arrived during her junior year of high school when her school introduced a foreign exchange program.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy hand shot up,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI went off to a home in Sandviken, a small Swedish town, for my senior year. I was excited to go where nobody thought I was a weirdo.\u201d<\/p>\n
While living abroad, Davis attended high school in Sweden and even found herself swept up in a teenage romance.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had the cutest boyfriend,\u201d she said. \u201cHis family sort of adopted me.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, spending her senior year overseas meant missing the audition for Boston University\u2019s acting program.<\/p>\n
Instead, Davis initially attended New England College before later transferring to Boston University after her freshman year.<\/p>\n
Just two years later, she filmed her very first audition tape \u2013 a move that would ultimately launch her Hollywood career.<\/p>\n
\u201cSoon after I arrived, my agency called,\u201d Davis recalled. \u201cI got the part. The movie was \u2018Tootsie.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
The actor also revealed that producers became interested in her after seeing modelling photos from a Victoria\u2019s Secret catalogue.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey liked my audition tape but asked about my bathing-suit photo,\u201d she explained. \u201cI was still in Paris, so my agency sent over photos of me from a Victoria\u2019s Secret catalogue, and I was cast.\u201d<\/p>\n
Today, Davis\u2019 life looks dramatically different from the quiet suburban childhood she once knew.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, I live in a Spanish-style house near Los Angeles that has a beautiful yard,\u201d she said. \u201cHome is elusive, since work keeps me busy travelling.\u201d<\/p>\n
Still, despite the glamorous lifestyle and decades-long Hollywood career, Davis says her favourite spot in the house remains surprisingly cozy and personal.<\/p>\n
