{"id":695136,"date":"2026-05-26T06:48:29","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T06:48:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/695136\/"},"modified":"2026-05-26T06:48:29","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T06:48:29","slug":"indycar-news-watch-scott-mclaughlins-indy-500-finish-onboard-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/695136\/","title":{"rendered":"IndyCar news: Watch Scott McLaughlin\u2019s Indy 500 finish onboard video"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/scott-mclaughlin-indy-500-finish.jpg\" alt=\"Watch incredible Indy 500 last lap from McLaughlin\u2019s view\"\/><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAn onboard view from Scott McLaughlin&#8217;s car of the Indianapolis 500.<\/p>\n<p>The Team Penske driver began the one-lap shootout from sixth and wound up finishing third thanks to an enormous tow from racer winner Felix Rosenqvist and runner-up David Malukas.<\/p>\n<p>Meyer Shank Racing\u2019s Marcus Armstrong, who led the start of the last lap, wound up finishing fifth while McLaren\u2019s Pato O\u2019Ward started and finished fourth.<\/p>\n<p>A slipstream from the cars ahead of him propelled McLaughlin in the final few hundred metres to finish just 0.007s ahead of O\u2019Ward and 0.016s ahead of Armstrong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThought there was going to be a major check up there,\u201d McLaughlin said, replying to a video of his onboard that you can watch below.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCharged up and let it eat to the line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNever give up!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Kiwi was an outright contender throughout the race but ultimately slipped back as the alternate strategy came to the fore, bringing Rosenqvist and O\u2019Ward into the picture.<\/p>\n<p>McLaughlin took to social media to reflect on the day\u2019s race, a year on from failing to start the 2025 edition after he crashed during the warm-up laps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year\u2019s race made me realise you can never waste an opportunity at this place,\u201d said McLaughlin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComing back with a storyline that no driver really wants to have. I can\u2019t thank my family, friends and especially my team enough for always having my back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t have the fastest car yesterday but we led laps, were amazing on pit road, made no mistakes, shipped it on restarts and took what was given to us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy PB (personal best) finish at the 500, starting 10th with four to go, to finish third was a huge comeback.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough it\u2019s not we wanted, I learned a ton that hopefully will help me win this race one day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf that doesn\u2019t happen, if we execute the way I did yesterday, I\u2019ll be content because we gave it our best shot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The IndyCar Series resumes on June 1 with the Detroit Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p>McLaughlin sits sixth in the standings, 92 points in arrears of series leader Alex Palou for Chip Ganassi Racing.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">2026 Indy 500 \u2013 McLaughlin Finish<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a lot to love here, but personally, I love the presence McLaughlin has to really set up this pass.
