(ABC News: Matt Roberts)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke issued the exclusion order against Ms Abby in February on national security grounds, following ASIO advice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">It is understood Ms Abby travelled to Syria as a teenager in 2015 to marry an ISIS fighter, who has since been killed, and gave birth to a daughter overseas who remains with her in Syria.<\/p>\n<p>ISIS-linked women could face charges<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Unlike a separate ISIS-linked cohort that returned to Australia earlier this month, no arrests or charges have been laid against the seven women who landed in Sydney and Melbourne on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Members of the cohort remain under investigation and could still face charges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Home Affairs Department secretary Stephanie Foster told the Senate estimates committee that &#8220;activities in law enforcement and intelligence agencies are ongoing, so that [pressing charges] remains under consideration.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A woman with white hair, wearing a dark suit, sitting at a desk.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/2440e116ab3c1a0713cd0e35d241ef1e.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Stephanie Foster says federal police investigations into the cohort remain ongoing. (ABC News: Baderkhan Ahmad)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We have not changed our position at a Commonwealth level that we do not provide specific support in relation to any individual, so we have not provided any further support to that specific request,&#8221; Mr Dowling said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">However, Ms Foster said a formal response had not yet been provided, which would ultimately be a matter for the government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The federal opposition has suggested the ongoing cost of monitoring and rehabilitating the women and children could cost taxpayers up to $2 million annually.
