Hampshire batter Tristan Stubbs impressed on his T20 Blast debut, firing 69 off 42 balls less than 24 hours after arriving in the country after “not much sleep”.<\/p>\n

The South African top scored at the Utilita Bowl on Tuesday night as the Hawks beat Essex by 30 runs<\/a> for their first win in this season’s competition.<\/p>\n

Stubbs admitted that despite the quick turnaround after arriving from his Indian Premier League commitments, his first taste of action for Hampshire was a positive experience.<\/p>\n

“I actually really enjoyed today so I’m glad I could play,” he told BBC Radio Solent<\/a> following the game.<\/p>\n

“I landed at eight o’clock last night, got to my accommodation just after 10, and I was here at seven thirty for medical testing, so I’ve not had much sleep,”<\/p>\n

“All my pre-match things that I normally do are no longer going to happen, so yeah, I’ll take it!”<\/p>\n

Stubbs signed for Hampshire in February,<\/a> having never previously played in the Blast.<\/p>\n

He did, however, play in The Hundred last summer and will feature again this year for Southern Brave.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday night, Stubbs built a strong partnership in the final overs with fellow overseas signing Hilton Cartwright, coming together to take their total to 201.<\/p>\n

Stubbs struck five sixes and three fours in his innings, while Cartwright finished on 46 not out from 21 balls.<\/p>\n

“We spoke about whatever we can get in the last four (overs), we can get a good score if we’re in together,” Stubbs added.<\/p>\n

“We just needed some momentum and then we got some and just ran with it at the end, T20 is a weird game.<\/p>\n

“I walked in and I actually was hitting the ball really well from the start but I just kept hitting the fielders.<\/p>\n

“Ideally I wouldn’t want to start that slowly, generally a bit more structured to then go at the end but yeah, I felt really good.”<\/p>\n

Hampshire are next in T20 action on Friday when they host Surrey at the Utilita Bowl.<\/p>\n
