The winners of this year\u2019s City of Port Phillip Design and Development Awards, which honour the best architecture and urban design projects across much of Melbourne\u2019s inner south, have been announced at St Kilda Town Hall, as part of Melbourne Design Week. They include the redeveloped St Kilda Pier, a 700-home apartment complex, Australia\u2019s oldest kindergarten and the environmentally ambitious Port Phillip Eco Centre, among others.<\/p>\n
City of Port Phillip Mayor Alex Makin said this year\u2019s awards highlighted the extraordinary breadth and quality of projects shaping the municipality. \u201cWith a record 52 submissions, the jury was impressed by the diversity, creativity and calibre on display,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the 18th time we\u2019ve celebrated design excellence through these awards, and each winner and commendation reflects the care and imagination that make Port Phillip such a vibrant and distinctive place to live.\u201d <\/p>\n
Jury members included Linda Cheng (freelance journalist and editor) as chair, Kathryn Robson (director, Robson Rak Architects), Brendan Baxter (principal architect, City of Port Phillip), and City of Port Phillip councillors Serge Thomann and Heather Cunsolo. <\/p>\n
