He oversaw a series of scandals and failures, including\u00a0more than 65 corrections and admissions of fault in a single year.<\/a><\/p>\n Liberal Senator Sarah Henderson asked Mr Marks if he threatened Mr Stevens with dismissal.<\/p>\n Ms Henderson\u00a0said she received a tip-off that\u00a0Mr Marks \u201cthreatened to terminate\u201d Mr Stevens if he did not resign.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI have received some information that you threatened to terminate Mr Stevens if he didn\u2019t resign, is that the case?\u201d she asked. \u00a0<\/p>\n Mr Marks said he did not know where the information had originated.<\/p>\n \u201cThere were two people in our meeting, maybe three so I don\u2019t know where that information is coming from,\u201d Mr Marks said. \u00a0<\/p>\n Ms Henderson said she would not disclose her source and asked whether the information was true.<\/p>\n Mr Marks told her: \u201cI don\u2019t make threats, Senator\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n Ms Henderson continued pressing the issue.<\/p>\n \u201cDid you suggest that you were going to terminate Mr Stevens if he didn\u2019t resign?\u201d she asked. \u00a0<\/p>\n Mr Marks said: \u201cSenator, I think it\u2019s inappropriate to go into the details of individual discussions with Mr Stevens about a very serious matter in this forum.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBut I think the outcome is that Mr Stevens has resigned.\u201d<\/p>\n \u2018It just looks really bad\u2019: Controversial Giggle v Tickle thrust under microscope\u00a0<\/p>\n Editorial Director Gavin Fang has defended the ABC\u2019s coverage of a major gendered rights case under a heavy scrutiny from Senator Henderson. \u00a0<\/p>\n The Federal Court earlier in the month upheld a ruling in which it was established the Sex Discrimination Act protected trans woman Roxanne Tickle from exclusion from a women\u2019s only application. \u00a0<\/p>\n The Giggle vs Tickle case proved divisive among trans and women\u2019s rights activists. \u00a0<\/p>\n Shortly after the ruling was passed down, the ABC featured an opinion piece celebrating the ruling as \u201cgood for both trans rights and women\u2019s rights\u201d, but did not share any articles of the opposing view. \u00a0<\/p>\n Ms Henderson questioned whether the editorial decision constituted a failure to adhere to the broadcaster’s impartiality standards. \u00a0<\/p>\n Mr Fang said the article appeared on the Religion and Ethics platform where pieces of varying opinions are featured.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not aware particularly of others that might have been referring to this case, but over time we have published a variety of different opinions about these issues,\u201d he said. \u00a0<\/p>\n Ms Henderson said: \u201cIn the case of this issue you haven\u2019t, it was clearly marked opinion, I appreciate that\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cBut there were claims made that are very highly contested, and there has been no attempt by the ABC to present the other side of the story,\u201d she continued. \u00a0<\/p>\n Mr Fang contended the ABC had published several stories on the issue \u201cmore broadly\u201d, but Ms Henderson focused on articles published following the conclusion of the Federal Court case. \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s been no attempt by the ABC to seek other opinions,\u201d Ms Henderson said. \u00a0<\/p>\n Mr Fang hit back at the Senator, saying: \u201cIt may be, Senator, that the religion and ethics site is looking for other opinions about this issue at the moment, I don\u2019t know\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cBut the fact that we published one opinion piece does not indicate an issue in our coverage,\u201d he continued. \u00a0<\/p>\n Ms Henderson took issue with the claim.<\/p>\n \u201cNo it does, it absolutely does because it shows that you\u2019re only prepared in relation to the outcome of this full federal court decision,\u201d Senator Henderson said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe ABC\u2019s made the decision to only publish one opinion piece which is very, very slanted.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr Fang repeated he was not aware of what else the website was looking to publish. \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cCan I suggest that it would be appropriate that you balanced your coverage with other opinions in relation to this case,\u201d Ms Henderson continued. \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIt just looks, it looks, really bad; it just looks like the ABC has a very jaundiced view when it only publishes opinions which reflect one side of the argument.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Mr Fang said he would take it \u201con board\u201d.<\/p>\n ABC boss admits hunt to replace scandal-plagued news director began months before resignation<\/p>\n The ABC’s search to replace scandal-plagued news boss Mr Stevens began at least six months before his resignation on Wednesday, Mr Marks has confirmed.<\/p>\n Mr Marks said he had been \u201cinformally\u201d preparing to replace Mr Stevens for about six months.<\/p>\n \u201cI have met many senior news people from around the world over the last six months.
