left Leclerc himself stunned with the Monegasque <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/charles-leclerc-does-not-understand-anything-about-formula-1-after-shock-hungarian-gp-pole\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">quipping after the session<\/a> that he does not \u201cunderstand anything about Formula 1.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leclerc went on to describe his result as \u201cprobably one of the best pole positions I\u2019ve ever had\u201d as it was so \u201cunexpected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is believed that a change to the weather conditions contributed heavily to Leclerc\u2019s pole, taking to 37\u00b0C \u2013 between the start of Q2 and the decisive final runs of Q3.<\/p>\n<p>The speed of the wind changed too with drivers faced with a wind speed of around 2-2.5 kilometres per hour, with occasional gusts up to 3.3km\/h, in Q3 \u2013 up from around 1-1.4km\/h in Q2.<\/p>\n<p>The wind direction also changed as the preferred headwind on the approach to Turn 2 was replaced with a more inconsistent tail\/crosswind, with other key corners on the Hungaroring lap also affected.<\/p>\n<p>Writing in a column for the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/comment\/columnists\/article\/jeremy-clarkson-i-like-the-lionesses-but-id-love-cow-racing-mcswnqf9c\" target=\"_blank\">Sunday Times<\/a>, Clarkson lamented the high standards across modern sport that mean events are increasingly decided by tiny margins.<\/p>\n<p>And he pointed to the effect of the \u201cbreeze\u201d in F1 as a pertinent example, claiming the weather conditions should not be a factor in the result.<\/p>\n<p>Clarkson wrote: \u201cLook at Formula 1 motor racing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve reached a point now where six drivers in six different cars can be separated by less than a tenth of a second, and the winner is the one whose car is least affected by whatever breeze happens to be blowing at turn six that day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBreeze shouldn\u2019t be a factor in sport, for God\u2019s sake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leclerc comfortably led the first half of the race in Budapest before suffering a mysterious loss of pace in the closing loss of pace was caused by Ferrari\u2019s need to guard against excessive skid-block wear, which resulted in his team-mate Lewis Hamilton being disqualified in China at the start of the season.<\/p>\n<p>It has been speculated that Ferrari was forced to raise Leclerc\u2019s tyre pressures and turn to a more conservative engine power setting as the race progressed.<\/p>\n<p>Ferrari has been battling a fundamental issue with the SF-25\u2019s ride height since the start of the season, with team and drivers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.planetf1.com\/news\/lewis-hamilton-ferrari-sf-25-trick-issue\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">forced to employ a number of unusual methods<\/a> to manage the issue.<\/p>\n<p>It was hoped that <a href=\"http:\/\/planetf1.com\/features\/ferrari-unveil-highly-anticipated-ride-height-solution-at-spa\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a major rear-suspension upgrade introduced at the Belgian Grand Prix<\/a> would go some way to rectifying the issue and allow Ferrari to access more of the car\u2019s underlying potential.<\/p>\n<p>However,
