The Saints need to find a way to score. No, that’s not the first time we’ve made such a call in a Ross Lyon game.

The leading possession winners so far suggest the game is being played between defences – for Hawthorn, James Sicily has had 11 disposals off half-back, while Jack Sinclair has been almost as dominant at the opposite end of the ground for the Saints with 10 possessions.

But the big difference has been Jack Gunston.

He was too clever early for Callum Wilkie, finding space to nail two goals, and then kicking a third 30 seconds into the second quarter.

St Kilda’s defenders were able to absorb a lot of defensive heat in the opening quarter because Hawthorn had a lot more of the ball, leading the inside-50 count 15 to 10.

But the Saints need to find deeper forward entries so they can land their first goal.

The Saints need to find a way to score.
