<\/p>\nA former South Australian police officer says he got into bed with a woman while she was sleeping and caressed her thigh soon after she rejected his advances, but denies raping her, a court has heard.<\/p>\n

The woman was known to the man, who the ABC has chosen not to name to protect the identity of the alleged victim.<\/p>\n
He is standing trial in South Australia’s District Court and has previously pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape and one count of attempted rape.<\/p>\n
The court heard the man had consumed four beers, between five and six glasses of wine, and a line of cocaine the night of the alleged incident.<\/p>\n
The married ex-officer told the court he initiated a hug with the woman and then, in a “spontaneous” move, attempted to kiss her.<\/p>\n
“As the hug was ending, it lasted a few seconds, I pulled her back towards me, and I attempted to kiss her on the lips,” he said.<\/p>\n
“And how did she react to that?” his defence lawyer asked.<\/p>\n
“She immediately withdrew and said ‘nope’\u2026 she walked straight past me and into the room,” the man said.<\/p>\n

The former officer told the court he then slept in a daybed in just his “jocks” for about an hour before he woke up “shivering” due to the cold temperature.<\/p>\n
He then went into the bedroom where the woman was sleeping primarily to “warm” himself up in bed, and also to “comfort her” after the alleged kiss.<\/p>\n
“I climbed into the bed \u2026 I sidled up to her \u2026 and I essentially got myself into a spooning position, my body pressed against hers \u2026 with my right hand I rubbed up and down her leg, hip and torso area.”<\/p>\n
“\u2026 She appeared to be asleep.”<\/p>\n
He told the court that this went on for 30 seconds before the woman climbed out of bed with her dogs.<\/p>\n
Upon cross-examination, the prosecution denied this series of events.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Karen Ingleton put forward to the man the kiss never happened and when he got into bed, he proceeded to attempt to rape and then rape the woman \u2014 something the man strenuously denied.<\/p>\n
“[That] did not happen at all,” he said.<\/p>\n

He also said he was prescribed different medications, such as mood stabilisers for diagnoses of PTSD, anxiety, depressive mood disorder and work-related stress.<\/p>\n
One of those, he said, was Amisulpride.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He spoke to his doctor about “a suppressed libido and ability to arouse any sexual desire and difficulty obtaining an erection” due to that medication.<\/p>\n
