Australia’s Daria Kasatkina will face world number one Aryna Sabalenka at the French Open following a straight-sets win in the second round.<\/p>\n

Kasatkina, ranked 53 in the world, needed seven match points against Swiss Susan Bandecchi before icing a 7-5, 7-6 (13\/11) victory.<\/p>\n

Sinner exits French Open<\/a><\/p>\n

Jannik Sinner’s French Open campaign is over after the world number one struggled with illness in a shock second-round defeat to Juan Manuel Cer\u00fandolo.<\/p>\n

Fellow Australian Kimberly Birrell lost to Ukraine’s Oleksandra Oliynykova, 6-3, 0-6, 7-6 (10\/5).<\/p>\n

Top seed Sabalenka overcame a first-set scare to beat France’s Elsa Jacquemot 7-5, 6-2.<\/p>\n

Sabalenka said she would not be taking Kasatkina lightly in the third round.<\/p>\n

“It’s always challenging playing her,” Sabalenka said.<\/p>\n

“She’s \u200ca fighter. She’s putting all of the balls back. You have to really work for each point, especially on the clay court.”<\/p>\n

Sabalenka, last year’s runner-up, was made to work hard for about an hour, with Jacquemot delighting home fans with several spectacular winners.<\/p>\n

A \u200cfour-time major champion, Sabalenka is still looking to land her first French Open title.<\/p>\n

“That was a very tough opponent. Tricky match. I’m happy that I closed \u200cit in straight sets,” she said.<\/p>\n

“She played really incredible tennis \u2060and forced me to step in and play on \u200canother level. I am happy I could handle it \u200cand win.”<\/p>\n

Sabalenka earned an early break with a powerful forehand to go 3-1 up but Jacquemot broke straight back.<\/p>\n

On a day when the men’s top seed Jannik Sinner crashed \u200cout in five sets to Juan Manuel Cer\u00fandolo<\/a>, Sabalenka had to dig deep in the first set against the world number \u206067.<\/p>\n

Sabalenka had set point at 5-4 \u200con Jacquemot’s serve but the \u200cFrench player managed to \u200cmatch the Belarusian’s power with superb precision and level.<\/p>\n

After winning the first set, \u2060Sabalenka never looked back.<\/p>\n

She grabbed a break at the start of the second set and won five games in a row, giving Jacquemot no \u2060chance of a comeback.<\/p>\n

Gauff safely through<\/p>\n

Defending champion Coco Gauff cruised past Egypt’s Mayar Sherif \u200c6-3, 6-2 to reach the third round.<\/p>\n

Gauff will next face \u2060Austria’s Anastasia Potapova, who defeated Briton Katie Boulter 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.<\/p>\n

Four-time major winner and 16th seed Naomi Osaka beat Donna Veki\u0107 7-6 (7\/1), 6-4 to set up a third-round clash with 17th seed Iva Jovic.<\/p>\n

Jovic defeated her American compatriot Emma Navarro 6-0, 6-3.<\/p>\n
