Roaming the pre-Canadian Grand Prix grid during his iconic \u2018grid walk\u2019 segment, Sky F1\u2019s Martin Brundle came across Juan Pablo Montoya and could not resist bringing up the latter\u2019s verbal clash with Max Verstappen.<\/p>\n
Montoya recently claimed that Formula 1 should suspend drivers who criticise the F1 2026 rules, with Verstappen<\/a> no exception. After a fierce Verstappen response, Brundle brought the situation up to Montoya on the Montreal grid. Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list<\/a> for news you can trust.<\/p>\n Over the Canadian GP race weekend, Verstappen issued a very blunt response when presented with Montoya\u2019s \u201cpark him\u201d comments by De Telegraaf<\/a>.<\/p>\n Verstappen questioned why Formula 1 would associate itself with Montoya, the seven-time grand prix winner, who serves as an F1TV pundit.<\/p>\n Verstappen claimed that Montoya talks \u201crubbish\u201d and does so to stay relevant.<\/p>\n Come race Sunday, Montoya crossed paths on the grid with Brundle, who was doing his grid walk on Sky F1.<\/p>\n Brundle told Montoya that he had upset the Verstappens. To that, Montoya replied: \u201cAnything new there?\u201d<\/p>\n Montoya has now hit out at Brundle in the aftermath.<\/p>\n Montoya is widely quoted as having told a gambling platform: \u201cMartin Brundle, who has never liked me, and the feeling is mutual, got me on the grid.<\/p>\n \u201cHe said: \u2018I see you have p***ed off Max\u2019. I replied: \u2018Nothing new there.’\u201d<\/p>\n The situation can be traced back to Montoya\u2019s appearance alongside Damon Hill on the Miami Grand Prix BBC Chequered Flag podcast.<\/p>\n Montoya claims that the \u201cinterview with the BBC was taken completely out of context,\u201d and that he had \u201csaid that all the drivers who were talking sh*t about F1 should get penalty points or a ban for a race,\u201d rather than singling out Verstappen, who he was asked about directly.<\/p>\n Montoya said that he and Verstappen actually exchange hellos at a race weekend and \u201cget on really well.\u201d<\/p>\n Indeed, Montoya\u2019s version of events is correct. When he brought up the topic of drivers criticising the controversial F1 2026 regulations, he did refer to all drivers.
