{"id":702587,"date":"2026-05-29T17:00:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T17:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/702587\/"},"modified":"2026-05-29T17:00:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T17:00:10","slug":"ef-boss-jonathan-vaughters-calls-for-a-change-in-cycling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/702587\/","title":{"rendered":"EF boss Jonathan Vaughters calls for a change in cycling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The question of a budget cap or salary cap in cycling has come up more and more in recent years, with teams allowed to spend only a set amount on their riders. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.idlprocycling.com\/jonathan-vaughters\">Jonathan Vaughters<\/a>, manager of the American <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idlprocycling.com\/ef-education-easypost\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">EF Education-EasyPost<\/a> team, is in favour. \u201cRaces are becoming too predictable.\u201dVaughters was a guest on his own team\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reels\/DYxVtKgoJ2u\/\">Cycling Performance Podcast<\/a>, where he discussed the idea of a cap. \u201cI don\u2019t know whether Poga\u010dar\u2019s dominance is really good for the sport, but it is interesting to look at how it could be,\u201d he begins.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Strade Bianche, you know every year where Poga\u010dar is going to attack,\u201d he says. \u201cNow imagine his team could not control things and after his attack he still had to bring back a breakaway of 40 riders. It would be as if Poga\u010dar were riding for Cofidis,\u201d the American continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen we would have an interesting race and I would once again be curious to see who wins. Right now you have the strongest rider, who then rides for the strongest team. That makes it too predictable.
