{"id":703016,"date":"2026-05-29T21:42:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T21:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/703016\/"},"modified":"2026-05-29T21:42:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T21:42:09","slug":"meier-suspended-for-switzerlands-semifinal-clash-vs-norway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/703016\/","title":{"rendered":"Meier suspended for Switzerland\u2019s semifinal clash vs. Norway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Switzerland will be missing forward Timo Meier when they take on Norway in the semifinal at the World Hockey Championship on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Meier, 29, was suspended one game by the IIHF for his knee-on-knee hit against Sweden forward Oskar Sundqvist during Switzerland\u2019s 3-1 victory in Thursday\u2019s quarter-final.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The 6-foot-1 winger is tied for fourth in tournament scoring with three goals and 11 points in eight games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Meier plays with the New Jersey Devils in the NHL and registered 24 goals and 44 points in 77 games this season as the Devils missed the playoffs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">This is Meier\u2019s fifth time represented Switzerland at the World Championship, taking home silver medals in 2018 and 2025.
