GALVIN WATCH

As if it was scripted, the Bulldogs halfback faced his former side exactly one year since he was officially released by the Tigers.

Their fans certainly haven’t forgot it too, booing Galvin every time he touched the ball.

“Whether he touches the ball for a second, the boos come up,” said Andrew Voss, while Michael Ennis called it “relentless”.

Galvin also called for captain Stephen Crichton to challenge a knock-on ruled against him in the second half, only for the Bulldogs centre to dismiss it and then later try to challenge it when it was too late.

“Wow. A flashpoint. Stephen Crichton had a view of it,” Voss said.

“He got away with one there, Kai Pearce-Paul, and Stephen Crichton initially didn’t support Galvin and in the end tried to but it was all too late,” added Ennis.

KICKING CONTROVERSY

The Tigers dodged a massive bullet midway through the second half when Josh Curran was denied a potentially match-levelling try after brushing Jarome Luai’s leg during a successful charge down. It proved to be a 10-point play as Jeral Skelton scored the Tigers’ lone second-half try off the ensuing penalty. It was technically the right call, but you couldn’t blame the Bulldogs fans for feeling a little hard done by.

BULA BRILLIANCE

Tigers supporters must be ecstatic that this bloke is locked down until the end of 2030. Playing his first game back from a shoulder injury, the electric fullback shone in both attack and defence. While his 136 metres in attack was impressive enough, his best play of the evening came just before halftime when he saved a certain try by forcing a knock-on from Bulldogs skipper Stephen Crichton inside the Tigers’ in-goal.

SUPERB SITILI

Giant Bulldogs forward Sitili Tupouniua had an absolute whale of a game in a losing side. He dented the Tigers’ line numerous times with his wild charges out on the right edge and created two of the Bulldogs’ tries with a pair of superb offloads.

DOGS NO CLOSER TO SOLVING HOOKER PROBLEM

Jake Turpin, Bailey Hayward and Kurt Mann have all had starts at hooker for the Bulldogs, but Cameron Ciraldo appears no closer to finding a long-term replacement for Reed Mahoney.

Mann started again on Saturday night but was taken off 24 minutes in after some poor dummy-half play.

After repeat sets in the Tigers’ red zone, Mann’s fumbled ball to Burton had Fox League expert Michael Ennis asking questions.

“A couple of times tonight where the service from Kurt Mann has been horrible,” he said, with Hayward brought on for Mann shortly after.

JUDICIARY WATCH

Sitili Tupounoua was placed on report early in the first half for a shoulder charge on Makasini. He was guilty of a grade 1 shoulder charge in round 7.

Josh Curran had a try overturned and was placed on report for contact on the legs of Jarome Luai attempting a kick. He had a dangerous contact charge in the pre season – and two high tackle charges in the past 12 months.

STAT ATTACK

– The Bulldogs had 78 tackles to 39 in the attacking half, including 37 tackles to 7 in the opposition 20. A big defensive effort from the Tigers.

– Tigers snap a three game losing streak with a huge defensive turn around. Conceded over 47 points per game in their three losses.

– Eight losses from last 10 games for the Bulldogs. They probably need to win at least eight of their remaining 12 games to make the finals. They have not won away from Accor Stadium since round 3 (Canberra) – five straight losses.

– Consecutive wins for the Tigers over the Bulldogs. They had lost three straight prior.

– Tigers have now won four of five games against the Bulldogs at Commbank Stadium.

– The Tigers completed 33/35 sets (94%) – their best since 2024.

– Jeral Skelton scored the third try double of his career – second against the Bulldogs.

Fox Lab POTM – Jarome Luai was the main man in the Tigers attack, setting up two tries, having a hand in another, making a linebreak of his own and completing 18 tackles.
