Craig Bellamy has been dealt yet another injury dilemma for his Melbourne Storm team after Nick Meaney was forced to leave the field early in the first half with a calf concern.

But the veteran coach could not help but notice the one young star who stood up for his team when things were not going in their favour against the Roosters on Saturday.

Meaney lasted just 15 minutes on the field before he headed to the sidelines to receive treatment from team trainers, struggling to put his body weight on his leg.

The gun centre did not appear to be in too much discomfort during the set prior to him leaving the field, although he did come out of a tackle in an awkward manner.

Storm medics cited a calf concern as the reason he would be ruled out of the game, making that call within 10 minutes of pulling him off the field.

Due to this, Bellamy fears he could be on the sidelines for up to a month.

“I’d say he’d be gone for about three or four weeks, I’d think,” the Storm coach said.

“Calves can be very touchy … I don’t know exactly how bad it is and our medical team won’t know until they scan him.

“There was no, ‘oh we will try get him through the next 10 minutes and see how he goes’, it was ‘no, we need to get him off’.”

Despite his early exit, the Storm claimed a hard-fought 18-4 win over the Roosters.

Sualauvi Faalogo was the star for the homeside despite not getting over the tryline, recording 301 run metres and three linebreaks. He also nailed goal-kicking duties after Meaney was forced from the field.

The 23-year-old assisted teammate Will Warbrick to get over the tryline in the 54th minute, scooping up a loose ball close to the Storm’s line before racing 80 metres down the field. Cody Ramsey did catch him to deny a try, but a quick play of the ball eventually found Warbrick to get the job done.

Just as Ramsey had denied Faalogo from scoring, the Storm fullback did the same to him, preventing the Roosters gun from narrowing the margin in a crucial moment during the second half.

While he had all in the stands impressed, Bellamy was not surprised to see Faalogo perform in such a standout manner against the Roosters.

“With all due respect, he was great tonight but the last four to six weeks he has been outstanding for us,” Bellamy said.

“He was at it again tonight … he has come a long way in a short amount of time.

“He is going to be a good player for a long time.”

Moses Leo then got his hands to a high bomb minutes later and blasted 85 metres down the field to claim Melbourne’s third and final try of the evening.

Only Billy Smith, who crossed in the final minutes of the first half, scored for the visitors.

The Roosters did have six players back-up from Wednesday’s State of Origin series opener, including captain James Tedesco, Sam Walker and Victor Radley.

Walker, despite starring for the Maroons earlier in the week, found himself in the sin bin with seconds left on the clock after being pinged for a professional foul on Warbrick.

While that incident did not worry the Roosters given the time left on the clock, Roosters coach Trent Robinson refused to give any excuses for his Origin stars actions.

“That is the last excuse,” he said when asked if he would use his representative players short turnarounds as an reason for their loss.

“I expect them to come back and play, if they are not ready then they don’t.”

The Roosters will now prepare to travel to the nation’s capital for a battle against the Raiders next Friday, while the Storm will host the Knights that same day.

Craig Bellamy has been dealt yet another injury dilemma for his Melbourne Storm team after Nick Meaney was…

[568
64,63,761,762,158,85
post-704772","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nrl","tag-au","tag-australia","tag-national-rugby-league","tag-nationalrugbyleague","tag-nrl","tag-sports
["GET
