A major US act is rumoured to be the one to perform at the NFL\u2019s season opener at the MCG in September.<\/p>\n

Macy Gray is the artist expected to provide the pre-game entertainment ahead of the marquee game, according to Melbourne\u2019s 101.9 The FOX host and former AFL superstar Brendan Fevola.<\/p>\n

Fevola revealed he was sent a DM as part of a regular segment on the Fifi, Fev and Nick show \u2014 \u201cFev\u2019s DMs\u201d \u2014 where an anonymous texter \u201cinvolved in the MCG\u201d suggested the I Try singer would headline the September 11 spectacle.<\/p>\n

The singer won a Grammy in 2001 for \u2018I Try\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve just been told that Macy Gray will perform at the MCG for the opening of the NFL season,\u201d Fevola said.<\/p>\n

It comes after the singer \u2013 whose I Try went to No.1 one in Australia and New Zealand in 1999 \u2013 announced a 21-show Aussie tour, kicking off with her September 11 Hamer Hall date in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

But Fevola\u2019s co-host asked if she was a big enough artist for the spectacle, which is expected to draw a capacity crowd at the MCG as the San Francisco 49ers face the LA Rams.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s OK. I just think you\u2019d get a bigger star,\u201d Fifi said.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s huge in America, superstar. She was on The Masked Singer bro,\u201d Fevola replied.<\/p>\n

As the producer played one of her other hit songs Still, host Nick said: \u201cOh yeah, just gets you in the mood for gridiron! It\u2019s got me all fired up for the NFL.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gray, 58, appeared on The Masked Singer Australia in 2021 as \u201cAtlantis\u201d and infamously refused to leave the show after being voted off.<\/p>\n

\u201cMacy Gray had such passion for The Masked Singer Australia that when she was told that she had to leave the show, which you saw last night, she refused to leave the show,\u201d comedian Dave Hughes said on his 2DayFM show at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe said \u2018No, I\u2019m continuing in the show\u2019 and there had to be a discussion which went for quite a while as to \u2018No, you have to leave\u2019. She said \u2018No, I\u2019m not leaving\u2019.<\/p>\n
