class two recall notice<\/a>, while on the same day, Crescent Pharma \u2014 the manufacturer of ramipril \u2014 said it was recalling the batch.<\/p>\n\u201cBoth batches were manufactured at the same site, and the issue appears to have occurred during the secondary packaging process for Batch GR155023,\u201d the recall notice said.<\/p>\n
Ramipril is used in the treatment of hypertension, kidney disease and heart failure.<\/p>\n
The medicines recall said that healthcare professionals should stop supplying the impacted batch immediately and return affected stock to their supplier.<\/p>\n
It advises that if traceability information on the batch is available, healthcare professionals should contact patients and ask them to check the medicines they have been dispensed.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf batch\/product traceability information is not available, pharmacists should identify all patients dispensed this product between 16 Jan 2026 and 22 May 2026. Attempts should be made to contact patients who have been dispensed the impacted product within the last 28 days as a priority,\u201d the recall notice added.<\/p>\n
Alison Cave, chief safety officer at the MHRA, said: \u201cIf you take\u202fCrescent Pharma Limited\u00a0ramipril\u202f2.5mg\u00a0capsules,\u202fcheck the packaging for batch number GR155023.\u202fThe batch number and expiry date information can be found on\u202fthe\u202fouter\u202fcarton.\u202fIf you\u202fhave received this batch,\u202fcheck that the\u202fmedication\u202fstrength\u00a0on the carton matches the blister strips inside.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the\u202f2.5mg\u202fcarton\u202fof\u00a0Crescent Pharma Limited\u00a0ramipril\u202fcontains\u202fblister strips that are labelled as ramipril 10mg capsules,\u202fdo not to take the medicine and\u00a0contact\u00a0your dispensing pharmacy. If the carton contains blister strips that are correctly labelled as Crescent Pharma Limited ramipril 2.5mg capsules, you do not need to take further action and\u00a0should\u00a0continue to\u00a0take your medicine\u00a0as usual.\u201d<\/p>\n
She added that if a patient believes they have taken 10mg capsules in error and are experiencing side effects, they should seek medical advice.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cSigns and symptoms may include feeling lightheaded,\u00a0fainting\u00a0or being fatigued,\u00a0or altered kidney function and may be more serious for vulnerable patients.\u00a0Any\u00a0possible impact\u00a0of taking a higher dose of ramipril should be assessed by a healthcare professional to\u00a0determine\u00a0whether any examination or tests are needed,\u201d Cave said.<\/p>\n
Paul Wright, consultant cardiovascular pharmacist at Barts Heart Centre, Barts Health NHS Trust, warned that the recall was important, \u201cgiven the potential for a four-fold increase in dose\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor most patients, however, a limited exposure to the higher dose is unlikely to result in serious harm. As suggested, there may be some clinically relevant effects, such as feeling lightheaded, fainting or being fatigued, or altered kidney function and this may be more serious for vulnerable patients that may require additional investigation.
