{"id":709411,"date":"2026-06-02T01:46:17","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T01:46:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/709411\/"},"modified":"2026-06-02T01:46:17","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T01:46:17","slug":"markets-live-updates-australias-award-wage-increases-by-4-75-per-cent-for-millions-of-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/709411\/","title":{"rendered":"Markets live updates: Australia&#8217;s award wage increases by 4.75 per cent for millions of workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some initial business group reactions are beginning to emerge following the announcement of the 2026 Fair Work Annual Wage Review.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The Australian Retail Council (ARC) says the Fair Work Commission&#8217;s decision to increase minimum and award wages by\u00a04.75%\u00a0\u00a0will significantly increase labour costs for retailers already navigating weak consumer demand, rising operating expenses and some of the most challenging trading conditions in recent years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;ARC Chief Legal &amp; Industrial Relations Officer Lindsay Carroll said retailers value their employees and recognise\u00a0the\u00a0importance of fair wages, but decisions of this\u00a0magnitude\u00a0cannot be viewed in isolation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Retailers support fair wages and recognise the contribution retail employees make every day, but this decision comes on top of a growing list of cost pressures that businesses are already struggling to absorb,&#8221; Ms Carroll said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Labour is one of the largest costs in running a retail business.
