{"id":710785,"date":"2026-06-02T17:25:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T17:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/710785\/"},"modified":"2026-06-02T17:25:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T17:25:12","slug":"mamdani-repeals-kids-bedtimes-during-new-york-knicks-nba-finals-quest-this-was-not-a-difficult-decision-new-york-knicks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/710785\/","title":{"rendered":"Mamdani repeals kids\u2019 bedtimes during New York Knicks\u2019 NBA finals quest: \u2018This was not a difficult decision\u2019 | New York Knicks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Zohran Mamdani\u2019s relentless quest to corner the youth vote has continued with the news that New York\u2019s mayor has repealed bedtime for the city\u2019s children during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2026\/may\/25\/knicks-cavaliers-eastern-conference-finals-nba\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the hometown Knicks\u2019 NBA finals run<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Knicks are in the finals for the first time since 1999, and the series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2026\/jun\/01\/victor-wembanyama-san-antonio-spurs-nba-finals\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">against the San Antonio Spurs<\/a> starts on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Mamdani <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DZDoWhLgeFN\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signed an executive order<\/a> on Monday titled \u201crepealing kids\u2019 bedtimes for Knicks Finals run.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In words that will strike terror into the hearts of parents hoping to get their kids up for school for the next few weeks, section one of Mamdani\u2019s order reads: \u201cI hereby direct that bedtimes in the City of New York are repealed during the NBA Finals so that kids of all ages can root for their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/new-york-knicks\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Knicks<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Knicks are looking to win their first title since 1973. \u201cAs Mayor, you\u2019re forced to make many difficult decisions,\u201d Mamdani wrote on social media. \u201cThis was not one of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Mamdani is enjoying a good run as a sports fan. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/fashion\/2026\/may\/29\/zohran-mamdani-eid-arsenal-kurta\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">His beloved Arsenal<\/a> won the Premier League last week, he celebrated the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/48878074\/zohran-mamdani-new-york-knicks-trolls-pokes-fun-cleveland-cavaliers-nba-finals\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Knicks\u2019 sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers<\/a> in the Eastern Conference finals and he announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/football\/2026\/may\/21\/zohran-mamdani-world-cup-tickets-new-york-city\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a $50 World Cup ticket lottery<\/a> for New York City residents in May.
