When two old comedy buddies like Conan O’Brien<\/a> and Marc Maron<\/a> get together, the conversation is bound to end up somewhere repulsive: like thinking about Donald Trump<\/a>‘s sex life.<\/p>\n

Maron, the soon-to-be-retiring<\/a> king of podcasts, guested on Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend this week, and he spoke about his pre-WTF days back when he was a gigging comic and made an appearance on Late Night With Conan O’Brien.<\/p>\n

“I was the second guest after Trump,” he recalled. “I remember it because I was in the hallway at 30 Rock in my dressing room and [producer] Frank [Smiley] came in and went, ‘Do you want to meet Trump?’ and I said, ‘Nah, I’m good.'”<\/p>\n

The episode in question was on Dec. 10, 1997, and O’Brien remembered it well, too, because it involved the frozen steak salesman<\/a> pulling a condom out from his pocket.<\/p>\n

Trump came on the show to promote his book The Art of the Comeback, and, as O’Brien recalled it, he asked his guest, “So you’re a billionaire. How much money do you carry on you at any one time? And he went, ‘I don’t know. I don’t know.'”<\/p>\n

O’Brien continued, “I reached over into his blazer pocket and felt something, and he put his hand over my hand really quickly. Like, don’t pull that out. We had a quick tug of war, and I pulled it out, and it was a condom. And he said, ‘Safe sex, everybody!’ It was a real moment.” (Note: O’Brien’s memory of the event all these years later is a smidge different from reality, but the essence is true. You can watch for yourself<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

“Then we go to commercial. And he’s mad. He’s [saying], ‘I’m not f—ing coming on this show again. Goddamn.’ And he told my producer, ‘You don’t reach into a guy’s pocket’ and stuff like that. Then cut to three months later it’s, ‘Ladies and Gentlemen, Donald Trump!'”<\/p>\n

Maron chimed in, recalling that when he came out for his segment, he pondered, “‘Why is Donald Trump carrying his own condoms? Don’t prostitutes usually have them?’ And then I said, ‘I’ll probably end up dead in the East River.'” (Note: Maron’s memory is pretty sharp<\/a>!)<\/p>\n

O’Brien wondered why the two were rekindling this old story, and worried that they’d both soon be shot by snipers if they kept it up. He then changed the subject to Maron’s longevity in the entertainment industry and transformation into a legitimate movie star<\/a>.<\/p>\n
