RAZOR\u2019S VERDICT ON WATSON NON-GOAL CALL<\/p>\n
Umpiring great Ray \u2018Razor\u2019 Chamberlain says the Nick Watson non-goal call last weekend was wrong. <\/p>\n
The AFL ticked off the controversial ruling that denied Watson a set shot goal on the half-time siren of Hawthorn\u2019s win over St Kilda, after the umpire deemed that Watson ran off his line.<\/p>\n
However, Chamberlain believes that was an incorrect decision, because the Hawks forward didn\u2019t improve his angle, in a reference to the AFL\u2019s rule book.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust because he doesn\u2019t go around the corner, makes no difference,\u201d Chamberlain said on Fox Footy\u2019s AFL 360.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe law, as it states, addendum B, is you can wherever you like, so long as you do not improve your angle to the goal posts. He doesn\u2019t do that.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe literal application of the law says there\u2019s no problem with that.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do want to highlight, I don\u2019t think for one second ever the intention of addendum B was to allow them to go out to the side. <\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s any requirement for umpire intervention (with Watson).\u201d<\/p>\n
Chamberlain suggested the AFL\u2019s endorsement of the call showed a disconnection with the game\u2019s official rules.<\/p>\n
