A man wanted over a string of violent offences has been charged after allegedly leading police on a cross-border pursuit before abandoning a stolen Bentley and swimming across a river to evade capture.<\/p>\n
Jayden Day, 28, who was wanted over a shooting and a crowbar attack in Victoria\u2019s<\/a> northwest, was spotted driving a stolen dark-coloured Bentley on Biralee Avenue in Mildura about 7.20am on Wednesday.<\/p>\n Police<\/a> initiated a pursuit, with a 23-year-old woman also believed to be inside the luxury vehicle.<\/p>\n Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Arrow<\/a><\/p>\n The chase crossed into NSW<\/a> before the Bentley was abandoned near Alfred Elms Road in Trentham Cliffs.<\/p>\n Investigators believe Day and the woman then swam across the Murray River and made their way back into Victoria.<\/p>\n Several members of the public alerted police after seeing an image of Day released as part of an appeal for information.<\/p>\n The pair were arrested\u00a0in the backyard of a Buloke Street home in Mildura about 1.30pm on Wednesday, bringing the manhunt to an end.<\/p>\n Day has since been charged with multiple offences including aggravated burglary, reckless conduct endangering life, home invasion, being a prohibited person possess firearm and theft of motor vehicle.<\/p>\n He was remanded in custody and is due to appear before Mildura Magistrates\u2019 Court on Thursday.<\/p>\n The woman arrested alongside him was released without charge.<\/p>\n Police previously urged residents to remain vigilant, warning the pair may attempt to gain access to another vehicle.<\/p>\n Investigators had also not ruled out the possibility that Day may still be armed.<\/p>\n Day\u2019s alleged crime spree<\/p>\n Day is believed to have been involved in a series of incidents across the Mildura region over the past week.<\/p>\n Police allege he broke into a Hawthorne Grove home shortly after 1am on Thursday and fired a shot at a 25-year-old man believed to be known to him.<\/p>\n The bullet grazed the top of the man\u2019s head, causing minor injuries.<\/p>\n Police say Day then fled the scene in a white dual cab ute.<\/p>\n Six days later, police allege he and another man jumped the fence of a backpackers\u2019 hostel on Indi Ave in Red Cliffs about 1.50am on Tuesday.<\/p>\n The pair allegedly entered a room and struck a 61-year-old man in the head with a crowbar.<\/p>\n The victim was rushed to hospital with injuries and has since been released.\u00a0<\/p>\n Police allege the pair fled in the same stolen dark-coloured Bentley later involved in Wednesday\u2019s pursuit.<\/p>\n Following the investigation, a 28-year-old Mildura man was arrested after police executed a warrant at a Keam Street home on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n He was taken to hospital and remains under police guard.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Calls grow to ban herbicide linked to Parkinson\u2019s disease<\/p>\n 2 min read<\/p>\n
