{"id":713882,"date":"2026-06-04T03:06:27","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T03:06:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/713882\/"},"modified":"2026-06-04T03:06:27","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T03:06:27","slug":"kakadus-jim-jim-and-twin-falls-to-stay-closed-throughout-nts-peak-tourism-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/713882\/","title":{"rendered":"Kakadu&#8217;s Jim Jim and Twin Falls to stay closed throughout NT&#8217;s peak tourism season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Parks Australia has announced popular Kakadu attractions Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls will remain closed for the rest of this year, including through the Top End&#8217;s peak tourism season, as repairs to cyclone-damaged roads are carried out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">In a statement, Director of National Parks Ricky Archer said the decision had been made following engagement with Kakadu&#8217;s traditional owners to allow for &#8220;critical road and infrastructure upgrades&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;Traditional owners expressed their concerns for the safety of visitors to their country and have requested that the area remain closed until all road upgrade projects are completed,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Parks Australia respects and supports this decision.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The closure includes the Twin Falls gorge and escarpment walk and Karnamarr campground, with upgrade works scheduled to start later this month and be completed by December.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"View of Twin Falls at Kakadu National Park.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/ecb2aa6e264372c973110d1102b9241a.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Twin Falls will be closed all year due to cyclone damage to roads.
