{"id":713970,"date":"2026-06-04T04:02:16","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T04:02:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/713970\/"},"modified":"2026-06-04T04:02:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T04:02:16","slug":"guenther-steiner-hints-at-surprise-moto2-signing-as-tech3-finalises-2027-motogp-riders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/713970\/","title":{"rendered":"Guenther Steiner hints at surprise Moto2 signing as Tech3 finalises 2027 MotoGP riders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Having secured Tech3\u2019s KTM contract for the upcoming 850cc MotoGP era, Guenther Steiner says the team&#8217;s focus now switches to finalising its 2027 rider line-up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s good that we have the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\/teams\/red-bull-ktm-factory-racing\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">KTM <\/a>contract; now the next thing is the riders,\u201d Steiner said.<\/p>\n<p>While all the factory <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/motogp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MotoGP<\/a> team seats are believed to be settled, pending official announcements, Tech3 still has big decisions to make regarding its own line-up.<\/p>\n<p>Tech3\u2019s current riders Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales are among those still thought to be on the market.<\/p>\n<p>While Bastianini is heavily linked with a move to Trackhouse, Vinales remains under consideration to stay with the satellite KTM squad.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/gng_1320513_hires_1600x900.jpg\"   type=\"image\/jpeg\" alt=\"Maverick Vinales, 2026 Italian MotoGP.\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.78\"\/> <\/p>\n<p>Maverick Vinales, 2026 Italian MotoGP.<\/p>\n<p> \u00a9\u00a0Gold and Goose<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNothing has been decided. [Maverick] is one of the candidates for sure. He has been with the team for a long time. He is a very good person. He is a good rider,\u201d Steiner said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was unfortunate last year when he injured himself. He needs to come back physically in perfect shape again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also told him when he came back from the last race in Barcelona, if he is not fit, he shouldn\u2019t come back. I think this is an opportunity for us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a team like us, we cannot get Marc [Marquez], we cannot get Bezzecchi. That&#8217;s reality, I cannot get around that.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, we need experience, but you can mix it up, experience and take a chance on somebody who could be the next star.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I think that is our position, where I see us. It&#8217;s a chance for us. An opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile maybe a big team cannot take chances, we can. And maybe, I wouldn&#8217;t say get lucky, because you need to do a good job and try to get the best talent out there for you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I think that&#8217;s a big opportunity for us to try to find the next talent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of the current<a href=\"https:\/\/www.crash.net\/moto2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Moto2 <\/a>grid, David Alonso (HRC), Dani Holgado (Gresini) and Izan Guevara (Pramac) are expected to secure MotoGP rides for 2027.<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>However, that still leaves the likes of title leader Manuel Gonzalez and race-winning team-mate Senna Agius.<\/p>\n<p>Steiner insisted that rider nationality would not be an issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I could have Marc Marquez, I wouldn&#8217;t care where he comes from,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA passport doesn&#8217;t give you a ride; a talent gives you a ride. We have to believe in the talent, not in the passport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As far as a deadline for rider decisions, Steiner quipped:<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very calm about it because most of the teams have signed their riders! So our candidates have nowhere [else] to go, to be honest!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you are the last one in the draft, basically, the draft is yours.
