I\u2019d say Sharon Stone<\/a> had a pretty good reason to leave her husband in the early 2000s<\/a>. In a recent episode of The Person Who Believed in Me podcast, she shared that she decided to get a divorce when her then-husband got \u201cfurious\u201d at her decision to get a double mastectomy after doctors found tumors in both of her breasts. Stone did not name the husband, but we do know that she was married to Phil Bronstein from 1998 to 2004.<\/p>\n Stone told host David Begnaud that her doctor made a house call sometime around 2001 to recommend a bilateral mastectomy, telling her that the tumors looked \u201creally bad\u201d and were likely cancerous. Even though Stone was personally convinced she did not have cancer, she decided she should go ahead with the surgery because she was \u201cnot fucking around.\u201d But her\u00a0husband felt otherwise.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \u201cMy husband said, \u2018This is ridiculous!\u2019 and got up and left the room,\u201d Stone recalled. When Begnaud asked Stone to clarify which part her husband found ridiculous \u2014\u00a0the surgery or the possibility that she might have cancer that could kill her \u2014 Stone replied that the husband was upset \u201cthat I would have a bilateral.\u201d<\/p>\n Stone remembered\u00a0 the doctor telling her husband, \u201cIf I had more patients like her, we\u2019d have more women alive today. You need to sit down.\u201d That, she\u00a0 said, was the end of the marriage. \u201cThat was it. He was done with me then,\u201d she continued. She said \u201cyou could just tell\u201d that their marriage was over, because \u201che thought I was ridiculous. He thought it was foolish. He thought I was making too many decisions myself.\u201d<\/p>\n In the end, Stone\u2019s tumors turned out to be benign, and she didn\u2019t end up getting the mastectomy. She did, however, get a valuable lesson about her then-husband\u2019s priorities.
