Aussie boxing star Skye Nicolson has opened up on the \u201cbittersweet\u201d circumstances surrounding her elevation to world champion, admitting it was not the moment she had envisioned as she outlined a wishlist of blockbuster fights for the future.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Fox Sports Australia, the Brisbane southpaw also addressed her ongoing feud with Jake Paul\u2019s Most Valuable Promotions and the prospect of a major unification showdown on home soil later this year.<\/p>\n

Last week, Nicolson became a two-weight world champion<\/a> after being elevated to the vacant WBC super-bantamweight title following Ellie Scotney\u2019s decision to vacate the belt.<\/p>\n

Scotney had been ordered to defend her crown against Nicolson, who held the interim title, but instead relinquished the championship, denying the Aussie the chance to win it in the ring.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one really wants to become world champion overnight in those circumstances,\u201d Nicolson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I fought for the interim title against a world-class opponent, I defended it, and I was in position to fight Ellie. I did everything I could \u2013 so yeah, it\u2019s bittersweet. <\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like that was the biggest fight in the division, but I wish Ellie all the best in her endeavours at featherweight. And who knows, maybe one day we\u2019ll fight at featherweight.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the title now around her waist, Nicolson\u2019s attention has already shifted to her next challenge \u2013 former two-division, three-time world champion Miyo Yoshida.<\/p>\n

While the official location has yet to be confirmed, Nicolson expects the bout to take place in the United States in August.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited for the challenge. I think she\u2019s a great fighter,\u201d said Nicolson.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are the fights that I want to be in. She\u2019s a very good boxer and I think our styles will clash well.\u201d<\/p>\n

And after that?<\/p>\n

\u201cThe plan is to be in a big unification fight before the end of the year in Australia,\u201d she revealed.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo fingers crossed that\u2019s what will happen following the Yoshida fight.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut all eyes on the fight first, and then hopefully a big unification fight \u2013 it\u2019ll be my first one ever.\u201d <\/p>\n

With the division thrown into uncertainty following Scotney\u2019s decision to vacate, the race to unify the titles is now wide open.<\/p>\n

One possible opponent for Nicolson is former champ Mayelli Flores.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is talk about me fighting Flores,\u201d said Nicolson.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know that she\u2019s quite highly ranked with a couple of the other organisations \u2013 so it\u2019s likely that she could get another belt while I\u2019m fighting Yoshida, and then we could do a unification fight at the end of the year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nicolson has had a running feud with Jake Paul\u2019s Most Valuable Promotions<\/a>, with the Australian previously claiming the company \u201chate\u201d that she is one of the biggest names in women\u2019s boxing.<\/p>\n

Over the past two years, MVP has played a major role in elevating women\u2019s boxing, signing several leading fighters including Australians Cherneka Johnson, Desley Robinson and Ebanie Bridges.<\/p>\n

Recently, MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian said he would be open to working with Matchroom Boxing and Nicolson.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have any contact with MVP,\u201d Nicolson said when asked about Bidarian\u2019s comments.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf he\u2019s [Bidarian] has been quoted saying that, then maybe they would be open to me being on their cards. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think they only want to put me in fights that they think they can beat me in. I don\u2019t think they\u2019ll be open to making fights with me that they don\u2019t feel confident they\u2019ll win.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, they want their fighters to win, that\u2019s fine. But yeah, I don\u2019t know. <\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know where that\u2019s at right now. Obviously, Flores is with MVP, so potentially for that unification fight we would be working with MVP.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Aussie star also believes that, as much as they won\u2019t admit it, MVP need her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it was just yesterday they were using my name to sell Tiara Brown\u2019s next fight,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I think they need me\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m chasing big fights. I want to be in the big fights, and I want to be remembered as one of the all-time greats. <\/p>\n

\u201cI need the right dance partners to do that, and obviously MVP will have to probably be a part of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked by Fox Sports Australia to name a wishlist of potential opponents, Nicolson didn\u2019t need long to think about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cEllie Scotney is on there. I think that would have been more of a legacy fight.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Amanda Serrano fight that I\u2019ve been very vocal about wanting for years now \u2013 I think it would be huge for my legacy and I don\u2019t even think it would be a close fight. But I don\u2019t think it\u2019ll happen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Tiara Brown fight would also be on there for personal reasons \u2013 a bit of revenge for that one.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019d probably be the biggest fights, if I was to put a little wish list together.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to win belts, I want to become undisputed champion.<\/p>\n
