The Bachelor alum Tara Pavlovic<\/a> has opened up about her divorce, revealing the moment she realised she had to walk away<\/a> from the father of her two children.<\/p>\n

Pavlovic, 36, recalled feeling \u201ccompletely numb\u201d by the end of her marriage<\/a> to Nick Shepherdson while speaking to Laura Byrne and Keeshia Pettit on the Life Uncut<\/a> podcast. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt got to a point where I just stayed quiet for so long. I kind of stopped bringing things up because nothing was kind of working,\u201d the mum of two said. <\/p>\n

\u201cI just felt like I can\u2019t control anything. I\u2019m just going to try and do me. I remember saying to him, \u2018I\u2019m worried. I\u2019m so disconnected.\u2019 <\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Like I don\u2019t even care if we fight or anything. I don\u2019t care if you go away. I don\u2019t care about anything. And he was like, oh God, okay.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cSo I went back to therapy… and I kept trying and trying and trying. I was trying for the kids. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got nothing left to give to the relationship, but I\u2019m just going to try because I don\u2019t want a broken family for the kids.\u201d <\/p>\n

She revealed the \u201cpenny drop\u201d moment came during a couples counselling session when she realised it wasn\u2019t enough to stay together \u201cfor the kids.\u201d <\/p>\n

She and Shepherdson share two children, Paddy, four, and Edi-Rae<\/a>, three.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t actually fully separate with him until we spoke to the couples\u2019 counsellor about it,\u201d she confessed. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe had some questions and she kind of was just like, \u2018Why do you want to stay?\u2019 And I was like, \u2018For the kids… she [said], it\u2019s not enough, it\u2019s just not enough.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cHaving that third party was so helpful in keeping our conversation calm and not reactive, which we really struggled to do in the house. It would always just get to the point of a fight. And I\u2019m like, we need a mediator.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pavlovic added that her children \u201cweren\u2019t getting the best version\u201d of her while she was still in the relationship with Shepherdson and trying to make it work. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t deserve a mum who\u2019s dosed up on Valium in bed, like because she can\u2019t cope with life. That\u2019s not okay.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of women turn to alcohol to cope and I don\u2019t want to get to that point where I\u2019m like relying on stuff to actually get through the day and I\u2019m not present. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey need a mum who\u2019s stable and I was completely unstable. So I feel like it was my only option. It was the last option.\u00a0I exhausted every other option.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThere was no comparison, staying together for the kids would have been terrible. I was continuing to go down, down, down and none of us were happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shepherdson and Pavlovic were best friends for a decade before they married in 2020. \u00a0Instagram\/@tarapavlovic<\/p>\n

In a post shared to her Instagram in April<\/a>, Pavlovic announced she had split from her husband of five years. <\/p>\n

\u201cI know there\u2019s been a lot of speculation about what\u2019s been going on in my life lately, so I wanted to share this in my own words,\u201d the post started. <\/p>\n

\u201cNick and I have separated. This hasn\u2019t been a quick or easy decision. It\u2019s something we\u2019ve been trying to work through for a long time, and for a while, I honestly didn\u2019t know what the outcome would be.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cAfter a lot of thought, I\u2019ve come to the decision that this is what\u2019s best moving forward.\u201d <\/p>\n

She continued saying she struggled through the eight months prior to the decision, adding that the couple\u2019s children were their priority.<\/p>\n

Shepherdson and Pavlovic were best friends for a decade before they married in 2020. <\/p>\n

Despite their split, the pair have a good co-parenting relationship and remain friends. <\/p>\n

Just last month, Pavlovic publicly thanked her ex-husband for his part in giving her a special\u00a0Mother\u2019s Day<\/a>, her first with their children\u00a0following their separation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

She shared she received a special surprise when she arrived to pick up her children from\u00a0Shepherdson.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I picked them up, they were holding a beautiful present and card for me \u2013 just like every other year. And I think that says a lot,\u201d Pavlovic said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though our relationship has changed, he still encouraged the kids to celebrate me as their mum.\u201d<\/p>\n
