The Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> continue to drag out their head coaching search.<\/p>\n

They seem to have a lot of options on the table, which can be a good thing until the time arrives to actually make a decision.<\/p>\n

At the moment, the Leafs’ fanbase is still waiting to see who John Chayka will hire to stand behind the bench.<\/p>\n

Until the hiring is made, the offseason discussions about trades and contracts and even the No. 1 pick have to be put a little bit on the backburner.<\/p>\n

At least it sounds like Toronto is moving in the right direction, even if potentially a bit slowly.<\/p>\n

They’ve recently spoken with Peter Laviolette and Patrick Roy, and things are moving forward.<\/p>\n

“Toronto, they interviewed guys on Monday,” NHL insider David Pagnotta said on Daily Faceoff Live<\/a>. “They interviewed guys Tuesday. I believe they interviewed some people yesterday. They\u2019re continuing this all week, and then they\u2019re going to start to narrow things down. But they got permission from the Isles to talk to Roy. They did. They got a few others that, as I mentioned, they spoke to this week. And Dallas Eakins was in Toronto on Monday at the Marlies game. People are wondering if they\u2019re\u2013 are we connecting dots here? Is he one of the guys also in this fold? And I know that he\u2019s looking for some coaching opportunities as well back in the NHL. He was in Germany this past season, last little bit. But yeah, Toronto\u2019s going through it now, and they kind of want to start to narrow things down after this week.”<\/p>\n

In the grand scheme of things, it’s more important to get the hire right than to make it happen quickly.<\/p>\n

But it is fair to wonder what’s taking so long since dismissing Craig Berube. It just feels like it’s been an unnecessarily long process.<\/p>\n

Judgment should mostly be reserved until a hire is made, and then until the new guy actually leads the Maple Leafs in 2026-27.<\/p>\n

There’s a bounceback needed in Toronto, and it’s a pressure-cooker type of situation. The Leafs have to get this hire right, and they certainly aren’t rushing it.<\/p>\n
