McLaren have confirmed that an electrical problem caused Lando Norris\u2019 stoppage during second practice for the Monaco Grand Prix, though they are yet to determine \u201cexactly what\u2019s gone wrong\u201d.<\/p>\n
Norris<\/a>\u2019 MCL40 ground to a halt at the Nouvelle Chicane in the early stages of Friday\u2019s FP2 session, leaving the reigning World Champion on the back foot heading into McLaren<\/a>\u2019s 1000th Grand Prix weekend.<\/p>\n After the track action had concluded, McLaren\u2019s Chief Technical Officer and Chief Designer, Rob Marshall<\/a>, provided an update on what went wrong, and the Woking-based squad\u2019s start to the weekend in general.<\/p>\n On Norris\u2019 issue, Marshall said: \u201cWe don\u2019t know conclusively yet. He had an electrical problem on the car and it shut down.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve not had enough time to go through the data and find out exactly what\u2019s gone wrong yet. It could be anything, but it\u2019s electrical.\u201d<\/p>\n It meant Oscar Piastri<\/a> was McLaren\u2019s sole driver representative for the majority of second practice \u2013 the Australian winding up seventh on the timesheets, behind the Ferrari<\/a>, Red Bull<\/a> and Mercedes<\/a> cars, and around a second off the pace.<\/p>\n \u201cI think we\u2019re confident we can make it a bit better,\u201d Marshall added of the situation. \u201cI think we were struggling in the initial part of the lap and then as it went through Sector 2 and 3, we started to be a bit more competitive.<\/p>\n \u201cI think maybe that\u2019s tyre temperature or maybe something else, but we\u2019ve got a bit of stuff to work on, certainly, in the first half of the lap.\u201d<\/p>\n Piastri himself reflected: \u201cIt felt okay, just not as speedy as we would like, unfortunately. A bit of a difficult one.<\/p>\n \u201cI think we made a bit of progress for FP2, but we went from a second-and-a-half off to a second off. It\u2019s been a tough day for us, for sure, so some things to find overnight, definitely.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cWe always expected Ferrari to be quick, and they look very, very quick as well, but we were hoping we would be a fair bit closer, so let\u2019s see what we can try and muster up for tomorrow.<\/p>\n \u201cI think in today\u2019s F1 there\u2019s never anything you can do to turn the car completely upside down.
