Darryl Brohman has revealed he is officially cancer-free, just six months after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, a form of cancer that affects the lymphatic system.<\/p>\n
The 69-year-old underwent chemotherapy and stepped back from on-air duties with 2GB for the time being.<\/p>\n
However, he is now set to return to the airwaves as he revealed a doctor has declared him cancer-free.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve had good news,\u201d he told 2GB\u2019s Continuous Call Team on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe doctor said, \u2018Mate, I think you are right\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am happy, the doctor is happy. I feel great. I am so glad the chemo is over.<\/p>\n
\u201cI did what I had to do, six lots of chemo, three weeks apart.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I was first diagnosed I was told this was very treatable. I didn\u2019t really know how serious it was, but it was serious enough because it is a type of cancer. I am sure a lot of people have been through it.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was pretty flat for a number of months. I used to take a tablet on a daily basis which knocks you about. But I was lucky enough that I had a job where I only worked Saturdays and Sundays. <\/p>\n
\u201cIf I had a full-time job working Monday to Friday, it would have been really hard and difficult for me.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou blokes have been great to me. I am so happy and relieved that I am going to be OK. I just appreciate everyone\u2019s thoughts, it has been really nice.\u201d<\/p>\n
Brohman will continue to be monitored, including having a PET scan every three months for the next five years.<\/p>\n
This was not Brohman\u2019s first fight with a life-threatening disease either. In 2010, he beat prostate cancer after undergoing surgery.<\/p>\n
But Brohman says he feels \u201cembarrassed\u201d to be receiving attention for his fight, given situations like the one faced by Jai Arrow.<\/p>\n
\u201cI must admit, given the situation with Jai Arrow, I am a little bit embarrassed to be receiving attention,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has a bit of work \u2026 it is bloody hard for him and his family.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I just have to say, to the doctors and health system that we have here \u2026 even though I went through the public sector \u2013 it cost me hardly anything and the system was so good to me.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe nurses, the doctors, the hospital itself was so good to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
