Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid has been voted by his peers as the NHL’s most outstanding player, collecting the Ted Lindsay Award for a fifth time.<\/p>\n
The Ted Lindsay Award is determined by members of the NHL Players’ Association. <\/p>\n
McDavid joins Wayne Gretzky as the only five-time recipients. He also took home the Ted Lindsay in 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2023.<\/p>\n
The trophy will return to McDavid in 2026 after he led the NHL with 138 points (48 points, 90 assists) while playing all 82 games for the Oilers.<\/p>\n
McDavid marked the scoresheet in all but 14 of those games to help the Oilers rank second in the Pacific Division and clinch a playoff spot despite missing Leon Draisaitl down the stretch of the regular season.<\/p>\n
His most dominant span of the season took place in December, when the Oilers captain racked up 19 goals and 46 points over a 20-game point streak heading into January.<\/p>\n
This season marked McDavid’s seventh time as a Ted Lindsay finalist and his sixth career Art Ross Trophy.<\/p>\n
The Oilers might need to take action in order to continue building around McDavid. Both he and Draisaitl expressed discontent with their team following this spring’s first-round loss to the Anaheim Ducks.<\/p>\n
Edmonton will now look to retool this offseason in order to construct another Stanley Cup Final contender around their perennial MVP.<\/p>\n
San Jose Sharks center Macklin Celebrini, who ranked fourth in the league with 115 points, finished as a finalist after joining Gretzky as the second teenager in NHL history to top 40 goals and 70 assists in a single season.<\/p>\n
