While Burton\u2019s incredible boot couldn\u2019t prevent the Roosters from handing the Bulldogs a crushing 32-12 defeat, his kick could well be the biggest in NRL history.<\/p>\n
We asked Johnathan Thurston \u2014 one of the game\u2019s greatest playmakers \u2014 what he thought of the kick.<\/p>\n
\u201cBloody unbelievable,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n
Thurston said he could not remember a bigger kick.<\/p>\n
Neither could Hazem El Masri, the Bulldogs\u2019 greatest ever goalkicker.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t remember anything close,\u201d El Masri said. \u201cIt was just a monster. <\/p>\n
\u201cNothing stands out in comparison, Nothing I have seen. He is just incredible.\u201d<\/p>\n
The longest punt in NRL history isn\u2019t officially recorded, but a quick online search turns up some notable efforts.<\/p>\n
While not a punt and aided by a gale-force wind, Cowboys winger Kyle Feldt drop-kicked the ball 62 metres on the full in 2018 during a match against the Eels.<\/p>\n
And with the ball still and set at the point of impact \u2014 making it easier to generate power \u2014 Pat Richards kicked a 54-metre penalty goal in 2015.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe power Burton generates is unbelievable,\u201d El Masri said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI couldn\u2019t punt, but even off the ground, my max was 40 to 45m. I think I got one from 50m once at training.\u201d<\/p>\n
While the NRL doesn\u2019t keep official records, the NFL certainly does.<\/p>\n
The longest kick in NFL history travelled four metres less than Burton\u2019s screamer in the air.<\/p>\n
In 1969, New York Jets punter Steve O\u2019Neal\u2019s kick covered a total distance of 89 metres \u2014 but only 63 metres in the air. <\/p>\n
Burton\u2019s effort was still rolling when James Tedesco ended its journey at 79 metres.<\/p>\n
