Frampton immediately realised the severity of the incident and tried to comfort Mihocek before calling over medics.

The game was halted for several minutes as Mihocek received medical attention.

Fans watched on with concerned looks as a number of physios took to the field.

Both sets of players rushed over to the key forward to wish him well, with Mihocek having made the move from Collingwood to Melbourne this year.

He was then escorted off the field on a medic cart, and he was able to give a thumbs up to indicate he was okay.

Mihocek was taken to hospital where he will undergo scans on his neck.

Dual All-Australian Leigh Montagna said there was an “eerie silence” at the venue after the incident.

“The game continues to try and do as much as they can to protect players, from rules changes and those sorts of things. But sometimes in this game, accidents can happen that are pretty dangerous,” Montagna told Fox Footy.

“This would be a unique one because there’d be a lot of Collingwood players that probably are as tight or have more of a relationship with Brody Mihocek for the time they’ve played together. This would affect both sets of playing groups.”

“That is a magnificent, beautiful scene going over to see their premiership teammate,” Fox Footy’s Mark Howard said as Magpies players went to Mihocek. “That’s a touching moment.”
