Savannah Guthrie opened up in a tearful conversation with Jenna Bush Hager on TODAY about how she has balanced her return to work with the daily anguish over the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Savannah and Jenna shared an emotional moment in the fourth hour of TODAY June 8 about what life has been like for Savannah since she returned to TODAY on April 6.<\/a> Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her home in Arizona on Jan. 31 in what authorities believe was an abduction. She remains missing. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really hard to come back,\u201d Savannah, who was guest co-hosting the fourth hour, tearfully told Jenna. \u201cI\u2019ve been trying so hard to hold it together, and I promise I will.\u201d<\/p>\n

She expressed her gratitude for all the support of her colleagues on TODAY and everyone behind the scenes. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m happy to be back,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s like the two hours of my day \u2014 it\u2019s not that I\u2019m not thinking about it, because I am \u2014 but it\u2019s something to do. It brings me a lot of joy to be with everybody. But no, it\u2019s not easy.\u201d <\/p>\n

\"JennaJenna and Savannah both became emotional during their conversation.TODAY<\/p>\n

Jenna expressed her hope that being on TODAY has helped provide Savannah with a \u201cspark.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is. It\u2019s a little respite,\u201d Savannah said. \u201cAnd you are my family. I don\u2019t think if I had any other kind of job I would\u2019ve even tried to come back. I just felt like, what else should I do? And my mom would\u2019ve said the same like, \u2018Honey, just keep going, just keep going.\u2019 And so, I am.\u201d<\/p>\n

Savannah said she didn\u2019t know if she was emotionally ready to fill in as the co-host for TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle, two months after her return to work. <\/p>\n

Savannah said that \u201cto do the job, I got to keep it together, pull it together,\u201d which would be hard to do when talking with Jenna on the fourth hour.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hard when you\u2019re with your best friend to not be real. You\u2019ve asked me before if I\u2019m ready. But I couldn\u2019t look at you, in this kind of setting, where we talk about life and not tell the truth about my life,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know maybe people wonder like, \u2018What\u2019s going on? How is she able to do that job? Is she not thinking about it, did she forget?\u2019\u201d Savannah continued. \u201cNo, never. Never.\u201d <\/p>\n

Jenna said her TODAY family will always be there for Savannah as she endures such a difficult time. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe still need everybody\u2019s prayers. We still wish somebody would call and say what they know,\u201d Savannah said. <\/p>\n

Savannah added that a line from the Bible that she found in a book of old sermons has given her solace. <\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a part of it which says, \u2018You\u2019ll walk and not grow faint,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cAnd this sermon that I read talked about that. How there\u2019s a time in life when just walking and not growing faint is about as good as it can get. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd that\u2019s what I feel like I\u2019m doing,\u201d she continued. \u201cI\u2019m trying to walk and not grow faint, and it\u2019s a gift from God that I\u2019m able to do so. But it\u2019s always with me. I cry every morning on the way to work, and I cry every morning on the way home.\u201d <\/p>\n

She is thankful for TODAY being such a \u201cbeautiful and joyous and supportive place\u201d and wants to show her two children that it\u2019s possible to balance the pain of her mother\u2019s disappearance with the happiness she feels while being on the show. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe can hold our sadness, and we can hold our joy, and if you don\u2019t believe it, just watch me,\u201d she added. \u201cI\u2019m going to show you.\u201d <\/p>\n

Jenna, at the top of the hour, mentioned that it was National Best Friend Day, a fitting occasion for her \u201cbestie\u201d to co-host. <\/p>\n

\u201cI just marvel, as somebody who knows you, at your strength. You coming back here and leading the ship, which I know has not been easy \u2014 and yet here you are. Morning after morning, getting out of bed. Spending the mornings with us. I know so many of you at home feel the same way,\u201d Jenna said through tears.<\/p>\n

The Guthrie family is offering a $1 million reward for Nancy Guthrie\u2019s return.
