It will take some time to recover from such a woeful performance.<\/p>\n<p>Penrith, in contrast, were relentless, scoring try after try against a Tigers team that had no answers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/person\/nathan-cleary-1ns0\" class=\"sc-ezrozd dxCwVA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nathan Cleary<\/a> showed why he is the best player in the world with a masterclass and gave his outside men time and space &#8211; and the Panthers\u2019 backline machine did the rest.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Did Burton take a dive?<\/p>\n<p>Did <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/person\/matt-burton-2611\" class=\"sc-ezrozd dxCwVA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Matt Burton<\/a> take a dive to earn the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/sport\/nrl\/news-2026-canterbury-bulldogs-v-parramatta-eels-result-stephen-crichton-try-video-20260608-p604wl.html\" class=\"sc-ezrozd dxCwVA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bulldogs a late 14-12 win over the Eels<\/a> on Monday?<\/p>\n<p>With the scores locked at 12-all and moments left on the clock, Burton was hit high by Eels hooker Tallyn da Silva.<\/p>\n<p>But the scream, the grabbing of the head and the staying on the ground for what looked to be minor contact was over the top for mine.<\/p>\n<p>The Bunker got involved, the Dogs got the penalty and skipper Stephen Crichton\u00a0did the rest, kicking the goal that proved the difference.<\/p>\n<p>It was perhaps an appropriate way to end one of the season\u2019s scrappiest games that produced a rare scoreless first half.<\/p>\n<p>The Dogs got the points, but still have a lot of work to do on their attack to make the finals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Did Walsh earn his Origin call-up?<\/p>\n<p>Plenty of critics are scratching their heads as to how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/sport\/nrl\/state-of-origin\/2026-qld-maroons-team-list-game-two-players-reece-walsh-selection-squad-billy-slater-press-conference-20260608-p604rf.html\" class=\"sc-ezrozd dxCwVA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reece Walsh managed to break back into Queensland\u2019s Origin team<\/a> after he had a shocker in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/sport\/nrl\/brisbane-broncos\" class=\"sc-ezrozd dxCwVA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Broncos<\/a>\u2032 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/sport\/nrl\/news-2026-gold-coast-titans-keano-kini-try-video-brisbane-broncos-result-video-20260606-p604iz.html\" class=\"sc-ezrozd dxCwVA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">loss to the Titans<\/a> on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/de8e18722bff1aeca4a45984c0fd99dc7b47ed84565a915053ceec4767767b4a.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"_0b53bae146db0b62 _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">Brisbane fullback Reece Walsh has been added to the Maroons squad.\u00a0NRL Imagery<\/p>\n<p>The bumbling Broncos slumped to a fifth straight loss to the lowly Gold Coast team despite entering as raging hot favourites.<\/p>\n<p>Plenty of Broncos played poorly, but all eyes were on Walsh. He made a couple of howlers in defence that justified Billy Slater\u2019s controversial call to omit him from game one a couple of weeks ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Walsh also gave teammates filthy looks more than once during the game &#8211; never a good sign in a struggling team.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s as if he knew his Origin hopes were crumbling &#8211; yet somehow he got the nod.<\/p>\n<p>It may turn out to be a master stroke by Slater as Walsh does have that X factor\u2026 time will tell.<\/p>\n<p>The Broncos now sit well down the ladder and making the finals &#8211; let alone defending their title &#8211; appears to be an impossible dream.<\/p>\n<p>Injuries haven\u2019t helped, but the team that was out-gunned by the Titans and still had seven Origin or Test players &#8211; more than enough to get the job done.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Maguire\u2019s troops were simply out-enthused by the Titans and are now the first premiers in the modern era to lose to the last-placed and second-last placed teams in consecutive weeks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Titans ended a five game losing streak in emphatic style with their last gasp win, and were the better team even though they left it until the end to come up with Keano Kini\u2019s wonderful winner.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Katoa in supreme form ahead of Origin<\/p>\n<p>If Mitchell Moses isn\u2019t fit for Origin two, Blues fans will get a look at their future playmaker &#8211; and he was running hot on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>Dolphins general <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/person\/isaiya-katoa-6hbs\" class=\"sc-ezrozd dxCwVA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Isaiya Katoa<\/a> is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/sport\/nrl\/state-of-origin\/2026-teams-game-two-live-news-predictions-round-14-updates-nsw-blues-qld-maroons-predictions-confirmed-lists-20260607-p604lf.html\" class=\"sc-ezrozd dxCwVA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on standby for Moses<\/a> and is in supreme form, guiding his team to a fifth straight win over the Cowboys.<\/p>\n<p>There are few smarter halves than Katoa in the league and plenty of people will be cheering if he does get his chance in elite company.<\/p>\n<p>The former Panthers junior set up two tries and scored one himself in the 40-14 demolition of the Cowboys and could easily take the Phins deep into the finals of he maintains this form.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Phins look the fastest team in the NRL across the turf and coach Kristian Woolf has given them free licence to play what they see &#8211; an average of 1.06 per game.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s just a pity that he is heading to rugby union in 2027, but I have a feeling he will be back.<\/p>\n<p>The latest Storm product off the production line<\/p>\n<p>Mark down Manaia\u00a0Waitere as the latest player to come off Craig Bellamy\u2019s prolific Storm production line.<\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old Kiwi is only in the top grade due to injuries, but is proving himself a real talent.<\/p>\n<p>Waitere joined the Storm this season with just one NRL game to his credit at the Raiders last season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the powerful centre has proven himself to be a real handful out wide in attack and scored an eye-catching try in the hard-fought win over the Knights on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>Bellamy has a knack of finding no-names and turning them into quality NRL players, and he looks like he has struck again.<\/p>\n<p>Garrick fires under pressure<\/p>\n<p>While Haumole Olakau\u2019atu grabbed all the headlines in Manly\u2019s 28-14 win over Souths on Thursday night, Reuben Garrick\u2019s performance would have delighted new full-time coach\u00a0Kieran Foran.<\/p>\n<p>Garrick is in his final season at Brookvale before heading to the Roosters and hasn\u2019t been enjoying the best of years. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Reuben Garrick of the Manly Sea Eagles.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/804fb85a6dc7c160273623252b5068c912ad5a09.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"_0b53bae146db0b62 _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">Reuben Garrick of the Manly Sea Eagles.\u00a0Getty<\/p>\n<p>One web page even nominated him as the Sea Eagles player who needed to lift his performances on the day of the game &#8211;
