{"id":72453,"date":"2025-08-16T10:09:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-16T10:09:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/72453\/"},"modified":"2025-08-16T10:09:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-16T10:09:08","slug":"major-search-underway-for-group-of-women-who-may-have-been-washed-off-rocks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/au\/72453\/","title":{"rendered":"Major search underway for group of women who may have been washed off rocks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"author-section byline-plain\">By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/profile-3508\/matt-jones.html\" class=\"author\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MATT JONES, SENIOR NEWS REPORTER, AUSTRALIA<\/a> <\/p>\n<p class=\"byline-section\"> Published:  03:53 EDT, 16 August 2025   |  Updated:  05:58 EDT, 16 August 2025   <\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A search is underway for four women feared swept off rocks at Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Emergency services launched a major air and sea operation on Saturday afternoon after the group reportedly became stranded on rocks near Catherine Hill Bay Beach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Police were called to the area around 1.40pm following witness reports of four women seen on the rocks around 1pm, but rising tides quickly obscured them from view.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Local officers, the Marine Area Command, and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter have scoured the coastline but have so far found no trace of the missing women.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">It&#8217;s still not known if they managed to reach safety.
