Which members of the family were chosen to led this deck? Well, the choice is yours, as we’re getting four different commander options within this deck. (And that’s without accounting for some side characters!)

Anyhow, you can find the full decklist, new cards and reprints with brand-new art below. Before we get to all that, let’s quickly discuss this deck’s theme.

Noncreature Spells and Multiple Directions

The one main theme that’s present throughout the whole deck and all four commanders are noncreature spells. You don’t particularly care about their mana value or anything like that, you simply want to cast at least one on each of your turns.

As for the secondary theme, the packaging suggested something called “protection fields”. This could make you think it’s some kind of a pillow-fort deck. (A strategy that makes attacking you difficult.)

However, it’s mostly refers to the Invisible Woman’s ability that creates 0/3 Walls.

As you’ll see, each member of the family does it own thing. Therefore, the deck is full of different subthemes, so each game can feel different.

The Fantastic Four Decklist

Among the 100 cards in the deck, 30 are brand-new. The rest are reprints from all over Magic’s past, using new artwork, set in the Marvel universe.

If the new cards aren’t showing, you can find them in the gallery below.

The Fantastic Four Spoilers

We’ll first do a quick overview of the four commander options, then move to the other new cards.

Invisible Woman

First up, Invisible Woman, which creates a 0/3 Wall at start of your combat — if you’ve cast a noncreature spell that turn.

The second ability triggers whenever you attack. If you pay four mana, one of each color except black, target creature gets a power boost equal to the number of creatures you control. It also can’t be blocked that turn.

All in all, this is a neat card, although not especially powerful. It does encourege creative deckbuilding, but is best suited for more casual play groups..

Mister Fantastic

As you can see, a similar design appears on Mister Fantastic. In fact, all four family members use that same template “cast a noncreature spell, get a benefit on your combat” and “pay WURG, do something.”

Here, the reward for casting a noncreature spell is a card. Neat.

But the real power comes from the second effect, which allows you to copy one of your triggered abilities twice. With the right setup, there’s probably a way to go infinite with it, likely involving some Village Bell-Ringer shenanigans.

But even if you use the card fairly, there’s still some fun stuff you could do.

Human Torch

Now this is a card made with aggro players in mind. (Although they typically play fewer than four colors.)

With first ability, Torch takes to the skies with flying, double strike, and haste. Now that’s a potent suit of abilities, that can be responsible for a ton of damage. Particularly if you boost its power in some sort of Voltron fashion.

The problem with such synergies is often how you can take out a single opponent, but then the other players deal with you. The second ability takes care of that, making Torch deal damage to all opponents. This has a lot of potential paired with damage doublers. (Think stuff like Dictacte of the Twin Gods)

The Thing

Finally, here’s The Thing. For six mana you get a 5/5 trampler, that can grow significantly on beginning of your combat.

If you put some mana into it, you also get to double all counters on your stuff. This works as a self-contained combo with The Thing, but also with many other cards too. Getting access to Doubling Season in your command zone, is going to make this a popular commander option.

Other New Cards

Here are all 26 other brand-new cards in the deck.

The Fantastic Four Upgrade Ideas

With other three precons, I recommended three cards that might spike in the future. (As they weren’t reprinted, even though they play extremely well with main commanders.)

In this deck each commander is trying to do its own thing. If you want to optimize it, you need to pick one of the four and build around it.

Thus, I decided to go with four options, one for each commander, so you can pick the one you enjoy most.

Rammas Echor, Ancient Shield (Invisible Woman)

Invisible Woman can create 0/3 Walls, as does this artifact. But this also grants all of your defenders exalted. Combine that with Sue’s second ability making a single creature unblockable and larger to get a massive attack in.

Strionic Resonator (Mister Fantastic)

If you are already tripling your triggered effects with Mister Fantastic, what about more redundancy? Resonator can give you yet another copy of whatever powerful triggered ability you plan to use.

Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar (Human Torch)

Do you want to build up a massive Human Torch, and take out all of your opponents at once? In that case, including Kediss goes a long way to help you with that.

Another interesting option to include is The Reaver Cleaver to further maximize your damage input.

Tamiyo, Field Researcher (The Thing)

The idea here is that you put Tamiyo in play, attack with The Thigh and pay for its ability. This doubles counters on everything you control, including Tamiyo’s loyality. Now you can active the powerful ultimate ability, drawing three cast and making your spells free for the rest of the game.

That’s it for the upgrade ideas, but if you’ve got something interesting in mind, let me know in the comments.

What is The Fantastic Four Collector’s Edition?

If you like foils, you might want consider the premium version of this deck.

In it, you’ll find the same 100 cards, but all of them will feature the surge foil treatment. As we’ve seen with some previous releases, this can add quite a lot of value to the cards, particularly the ones that are already pricey.

Reprints

Before we wrap up, here are the reprints that appear in this deck with a brand-new artwork set withing Marvel Universe. Three cards even feature alternate names.

Finally, there’s also a couple of cards from the main Super Heroes set.

 What About Other Decks?

If you want more details about the other Super Heroes precons, you’ll want to check the following articles, that cover them:

Until next time, have fun playing Magic and may all of your epic plays successfully work out!

The famous super hero family arrives to MTG with The Fantastic Four Precon.
