Australia has crashed to its first one-day international loss against Bangladesh in 21 years, with the hosts recording an 86-run win via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in Dhaka.<\/p>\n
Bangladesh posted a formidable 8-284 after being sent in at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, before restricting the tourists to 9-191 from 42.2 overs when lightning and rain ended play.<\/p>\n
It was Bangladesh’s second victory in 23 ODIs against Australia.<\/p>\n
Australia batted poorly and its bowling looked pedestrian compared to Bangladesh, which was spearheaded by firebrand Nahid Rana (4-41).<\/p>\n
Cameron Green (52 not out) scored his fourth ODI half-century, while Alex Carey (47) and Cooper Connolly (35) failed to capitalise on promising starts.<\/p>\n
“A disappointing total on our part,” acting Australian captain Josh Inglis said.<\/p>\n
“We dropped four or five catches. I thought if it [Bangladesh’s score] was somewhere around 230-240, it was very chaseable.<\/p>\n
“We didn’t have a big partnership to get us close. A disappointing day all-round.”<\/p>\n
Tanzid Hasan Tamim (54), Najmul Hossain Shanto (67) and Mosaddek Hossain (86 not out) all scored half-centuries for Bangladesh.<\/p>\n
Xavier Bartlett was the most productive of the Australian bowlers with 3-38.<\/p>\n
The second ODI is in Dhaka on Thursday.<\/p>\n
“We didn’t get it right in all facets,” Carey said.<\/p>\n
“Our fielding was a bit sloppy. With the bat we lost clumps of wickets Not a great way to start the series, but it is a series and we have two to go.<\/p>\n
“Hopefully we can respond and play better cricket.<\/p>\n
“W created a number of chances but weren’t able to hang on. Hopefully we’ll be cleaner in that and can respond on Thursday.<\/p>\n
“That’s the key: Learn really quickly.”<\/p>\n
