Dogs\u201d or they could be the \u201cAnalog Dogs,\u201d but either way doesn\u2019t matter since these teens got the improbable opportunity to open for Green Day<\/a> on New Year\u2019s Eve based on a demo tape. That\u2019s the gist of the trailer for Nimrods: A Green Day Comedy, a road-trip movie in which not everything goes smoothly. It opens Aug. 14. Filmmaker Lee Kirk, who wrote and directed the picture, based the story on Green Day\u2019s salad days when they toured in a van before Dookie made them world famous.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIt\u2019s about the experience that Green Day had on the road in the early days of more of a DIY spirit,\u201d Armstrong told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> last September when the film premiered with the title New Years Rev <\/a>at the Tribeca Film Festival<\/a>. \u201cWe played anywhere and everywhere, and a lot of shows would get shut down because the cops would come. But there\u2019s also the mud fight that happened at Woodstock. Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, and Fred Armisen, among others, also make appearances.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to do a Green Day film,\u201d Armstrong told The Hollywood Reporter. \u201cGod, ever since the beginning, just all my heroes have always done films, whether it was\u00a0Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll High School\u00a0by the Ramones or [the Beatles\u2019]\u00a0A Hard Day\u2019s Night, the Who\u2019s\u00a0Quadrophenia.
