Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System chief investment officer Ralph Berg is leaving the pension plan at the end of the month to take a new, London-based job.<\/p>\n

Mr. Berg is expected to join Temasek Holdings Ltd., a Singaporean state-owned investment firm that manages more than US$520-billion of assets, in a leadership role overseeing private-market investments, two sources said. <\/p>\n

The Globe and Mail is not identifying the sources as they were not authorized to discuss the matter. <\/p>\n

OMERS chief executive officer Blake Hutcheson will take on the CIO\u2019s duties in addition to his current role, \u201ceffective immediately,\u201d OMERS spokesperson Don Peat said in a statement. <\/p>\n

Mr. Berg\u2019s last day at OMERS will be July 1, and Mr. Hutcheson told the pension plan\u2019s staff about his departure in an internal memo circulated on Wednesday morning, which did not disclose details of Mr. Berg\u2019s new role.<\/p>\n

Mr. Berg has been the CIO at OMERS for three years<\/a>, after previously leading its capital markets arm, and joined the Toronto-based pension fund in 2013. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe thank Ralph for his many contributions throughout his years at OMERS, and wish him success in the next chapter of his career,\u201d the OMERS statement said.<\/p>\n

OMERS aims to add $10-billion in new investment in Canada over five years<\/a><\/p>\n

Last year, OMERS reported a 6-per-cent return<\/a> on its investments that fell short of its internal benchmark thanks to a weak U.S. dollar and sluggish private equity performance. But the plan made investment profits across most of its portfolio.<\/p>\n
