A compromise was therefore reached.

Next year’s ICEs will benefit from a five per cent increase in fuel flow, while the larger step to a total 12 per cent increase will only come into force in 2028.

The FIA stated that “the proposed changes are intended to address issues related to energy management and fuel energy flow characteristics and make Qualifying more flat-out while not impacting the positive and exciting racing generated by the new regulations.”

The statement continued, explaining that “the package introduces a staged rebalancing of Internal Combustion Engine and Energy Recovery System contribution across the 2027 and 2028 seasons. It includes targeted adjustments to internal combustion engine output, fuel energy flow and energy recovery system deployment, together with increased flexibility in energy management.”

Having thus far communicated only the basic changes seen below, the FIA explained that “supporting measures relating to power unit supply conditions, race operations and the relevant financial regulations are also included,” before concluding that it will “now expedite the formal approval process to provide all parties with early clarity and sufficient time to adapt to the revised requirements.”

The Fédération also provided a statement from president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, with the Emirati saying that “these proposed changes reflect the collaborative work taking place across the sport to ensure the regulations continue to support exciting racing, technological innovation and long-term sustainability.”

It is interesting to note that even though the current rules are advertised as a 50/50 split in power output between the ICE and battery pack, the FIA now admits the combustion engine delivers 53 per cent of the current maximum power. That figure will rise to 58 per cent next year and then to the desired 60 per cent in 2028.

Recent Storiesarray (
0 =>
WP_Term::__set_state(array(
‘term_id’ => 37,
‘name’ => ‘F1’,
‘slug’ => ‘f1’,
‘term_group’ => 0,
‘term_taxonomy_id’ => 37,
‘taxonomy’ => ‘category’,
‘description’ => ‘An Introduction to Formula One (F1)
Formula One, or F1, is the highest class of single-seater auto racing, governed by the Fédération Internationale de l\\’Automobile (FIA) and is owned by Liberty Media.
