Microsoft is limiting employees’ use of \u2060Anthropic’s \u2060Claude Fable 5 because of the AI startup’s new data retention requirements, The Verge<\/a> reported, citing sources.<\/p>\n

Anthropic this week said \u200cit is rolling out Claude Fable \u200c5<\/a>, \u200ca public version of its \u200cMythos AI model, with guardrails \u2060barring its use in risky areas such as cybersecurity.<\/p>\n

Claude Fable 5 is the most powerful model Anthropic has made available for wider use, \u200bwith the company citing its performance in software engineering and analytics.<\/p>\n

Microsoft has told \u2060employees that its legal teams are evaluating changes to Anthropic’s data retention requirements, according to the report.<\/p>\n

The concerns centre on customer data and confidential information, and it is not yet clear whether Microsoft’s legal teams will clear Claude Fable 5 for internal use, the report said.<\/p>\n

Under Anthropic’s \u200bdata retention policy for Mythos-class \u2060models, prompts submitted and outputs \u2060generated are retained for 30 days for trust and safety purposes \u200bon every platform where the models are offered.<\/p>\n

Anthropic \u200cretains inputs \u2060and outputs for up to two years if they are flagged by its trust and safety classifiers as violating \u200cits usage policy.<\/p>\n

Microsoft and Anthropic did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.<\/p>\n

Anthropic last week said it had confidentially filed for a \u200bUS initial public offering but did not disclose the size or terms of the offering.<\/p>\n
