Do Nothing<\/a> have announced their second album \u2018Friend World\u2019 and shared the melancholic single \u2018Stars\u2019 \u2013 listen below.<\/p>\n

The Nottingham band released their debut record \u2018Snake Sideways<\/a>\u2019 in 2023 and now they are back, with \u2018Friend World\u2019 to be released on November 6 via Submarine Cat Records. Pre-order\/pre-save your copy\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Built around drum machine patterns and squelchy synths, \u2018Stars\u2019 is quietly melancholic, with frontman Chris Bailey singing: \u201cWe\u2019re stars, the world is a worm on a strong \/ Hanging around, let\u2019s not amount to anything\u201d.<\/p>\n

Bailey has said about the song:\u00a0\u201cI guess the simplest interpretation of this one would be that it\u2019s about ambition, and people who are famous, and all the ways in which it doesn\u2019t make them happy people. More than that though, I\u2019d say it\u2019s about finding someone you connect with enough that you quit caring about the other things that used to drive you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGetting away from\u00a0the guitar was useful,\u201d\u00a0Bailey\u00a0added. \u201cWe didn\u2019t want it to sound particularly rocky or aggressive. We\u2019re always interested in finding energy and momentum without relying on the obvious ways of creating them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Friend World\u2019 has been produced and mixed by Louis Milburn of Folly Group and was recorded in Nottingham\u2019s JT Soar.<\/p>\n

Explaining how the new album deviates from \u2018Snake Sideways\u2019,\u00a0Bailey has said: \u201cWith the first record there was a feeling of trying to move away from what people expected of us. This time we felt much freer. We\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0feel any pressure to make a departure. We could follow whatever ideas felt exciting and not worry about what it meant.\u201d<\/p>\n

The album was inspired by novelist Elizabeth Smart and the leftfield comedian Andy Kaufman, who used to end shows by singing the song \u2018This Friendly World\u2019.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s this big, face-value expression of positivity that rang so weirdly to me,\u201d Bailey\u00a0has said. \u201cI found it difficult to interpret the lyrics as anything other than sarcasm.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me it\u2019s an album about a lot of bleak things, but it doesn\u2019t feel bleak,\u201d he added. \u201cI enjoyed making it more than anything\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0ever done, and\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0more proud\u00a0of it than anything\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0ever\u00a0made.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0the whole point of the title really.\u00a0There\u2019s\u00a0two sides to everything. Without the bad, there isn\u2019t the good.\u201d<\/p>\n
